Is it possible to get a repalacement slide manufactured to the XSE "enhanced" specs but without the front serrations? I don't mind the look, it's actually very nice in a non-traditional way and done with very nice machining but I definitely prefer a smooth front end for less wear and tear on the holster smoother draw. I admit, the frt. serrations can be aesthecially pleasing but really I can pull the slide fine without 'em. I've always preferred a smooth front for smooth draw and less scuffing on the holster and more vintage look. I love the fit, finish and features of my XSE but it would be an IDEAL sidearm with an XSE spec'd slide (Colt mfd) without the serrations. Are they out there or would a different slide, say a 1991 perform well despite "non-enhanced" fit that the XSE boasts? Would I notice? Any input is most appreciated before I try a swap and and find out it really can't be the hard way... Thanks

No XSE or any other slide is going to provide an "enhanced fit" on your receiver unless some gunsmith fits it. I think you'd do fine with an M1991 slide.

I believe any Colts you get will be a great 1911. The XSE does have some enhancements that may add or detract from it as a 1911 depending on your likes. I do not know of an XSE style slide without front cocking serrations. That don't mean they don't make one I just do not know of one.
You might take a look at the Gunsite as an enhanced style 1911 or even the plain Government Model over trying to get and XSE and change it around. There is always the Gold Cup Trophy if you want to get fancy, my personal favorite.

Might have to try the 1991. Maybe my gunny buddy can offer any "enhancement" fittment if possible. I bet the 1991 would work well, any respringing issues invoved with the swap?

You could consider having the FCS machined out....ala a Browning HP. I've seen it a few times and actually looks very nice.

Good idea. I'll look into that too. Thanks for the input...

I wonder if they could be welded up or otherwise filled if the pistol was coated with Armory Kote / Black T?
Any way you cut it sounds like an expensive proposition.

It won't be a bad thing if I have to live with them bit if I can revise an otherwise very sweet piece I'll consider it. I'm a proficient welder in many formats and wonder if the heat thrown in will do bad things to the steels' molclular structure and temper and compromise it. I'm a bit leary of that option but I'm considering all. The 1991 swap and machining out or possible smoothing at least seem safest.
