Hi Y'all. First post. Great site.
I recently bought a mint 1971 colt MKIV series 70 in 9mm. How rare is this pistol?. Was there many made?. I can't find much info on this piece. Any help and finding out about this series 70 in 9mm would be a great help.
Thanks
Kuulnor

You may call Kathy at Colt 1 800 962 Colt and ask her and she may be able to help you.
I have seen a few around here go for better than a grand.
Welcome to the forum.

Here is at least a partial list (http://proofhouse.com/colt/119m.htm) of Colt 9mm 1911 production years and serial numbers.

Anyone have one of these?
Hi
There are a number of us who *wish* we had one of those, but few who do.
It's a nice pistol. Hang on to it and shoot it a lot !!!

I am guessing, but there may have been a new rear site on the pistol, or you may want a letter saying that was the original site from Colt. This might make it worth more.

Kuulnor,
I own a 1980 issue 9mm Colt Gov Mk4 series 70.
Its in mint condition. I do shoot it. Bought it new back in '83.
Mine has the checkered grips. Yours are different. Mine has the basic iron sites. Fixed. Your rear site is adjustable.
Search the forum's pics thread for my name. There is the pic.
I just bought a spare barrel for mine, used but in excellent condition. OEM.
What is the story behind your purchase? True, you don't see that many 9mm around since the .45cal was more popular. It like the 38 super making a come back now.
All a matter of fad. But Colt is a nice gun!!!

Thanks for the replys. The story behind this pistol is:
The guy I bought it off, bought it an estate auction of a Colt collector. Says it looked unfired when he got it. He put 50 rounds through it to make sure it worked. Told me it is 1971 manufacture. He said the early 70 series had the "stimple" real wood grips and were fitted from Colt with adjustable sites. I live in Canada and am still waiting for the paperwork to pick it up.( been 2 weeks already). When it gets here I'll be able to check out the sites better. I can't wait to shoot it. Again thanks guys for the input this is a great site for info on these wonderful toys.
