Assuming heavy use for practice and competition.

What happens to our pistols slide to frame fit (most of us are very particular to this) and acurracy? Say if half of the time we use 22LR tops and another half 45ACP tops. Clearly weve been using our frame all of the time by using either of the tops.

In my understanding there will be twice as much wear on the frame than either of the tops. Just wondering, what can you say about this guys.

Sorry for the elementary question. I'm new in the field and haven't read much of the threads here.

Happy Holidays!!!!

Have you heard the stories about the military pistols which have fired thousands and thousands of rounds? Well, believe them, they are all true.

The 1911 frame is one of the strongest frames that exist in the firearms business. Those pistols mentioned above, are the proof. Now of course, firing .45 ACP is not exactly the same as firing .22 LR ammo, but any steel 1911 frame, with the proper recoil spring in place will last you more than your lifetime. Unless you are one of those competition shooters who shoot 20,000 a month.

Slide to frame fit? Accuracy? There is of course friction, which can cause loss of tightness. But with the proper lubrication, that can be kept to a minimum. So I won't worry about it. The part that is probably going to suffer first, is your barrel.
