Slimbo from what the guys have sent me there isn't one available. You might get the custom shop to fix one up but it may be pretty expensive.

Try this link, Bud's gunshop doesn't have any right now. I've never bought from AJC Sports, but I've seen them recommended here before.3

Hi Slimbo,

The answer to the question, "was the stainless gct ever available with the elliason style rear sight that it looks like his gun had at one point? (instead of the bomar)." is yes. it used to be. You need to look at the used market from whatever source. I think there was a picture of an early GCT in SS in the past on this forum and I have seen them at gunsamerica.com and gunbroker.com

I know this because I have been looking for a SS GCT (Gold Cup Trophy) or SS GCNM (Gold Cup National Match) with the Elliason style rear site for some time, so I take note when I see one. I will probably buy a new GCT in blue next year unless I see a good used one.

The current SS GCT's do not have a true Bomar, although it is close enough to invite comparison. Yes they do put a true Bomar on their Special Combat Gov. by the way. I don't mind the Bomars and I bought a Special Combat Gov. in hard chrome with the Bomar, and, yes they are more than a GC. To me, however, the Gold Cup sort of means the flat-top, wide trigger, and the Elliason type sites (yes, I know the old National Matches did not have these).

By the way, an interesting site for Gold Cups is:

dakota is right on. I have seen several stainless GCT with Elliason sights on gunbroker the past few months. My favorite thing to do is type in Colt Gold Cup and just stare at all the Gold Cups I want. Anyway they are out there and for what it is worth I prefer the Elliason myself.

The piece you are looking for is the Stainless Gold Cup National Match...which was produced from 1986 till 1996. Those years the stainless model had the Elliason sights.

Most of the used Gold Cups are well taken care of so that's a good option. You could also get a new blued one then send it to Tripp for the great hard chrome finish they have.

I really like the idea of hard chroming a blue Gold Cup..........that would be a great looking 1911 with a very durable finish as well.

Good idea ! A smith/re-finisher near me is thinking about adding hard chrome to his services. Now you have me thinking. Hmmm...

I keep looking for the "right" old Gold Cup at the "right" price and have not found it yet. The last one was a great buy and I will not mess with it since it was +95%. I love my hard chromed Special Combat Gov. and will keep looking for the "right" old Gold Cup to have redone.

thanks everyone. after i posted this i saw two gold cup national match guns on gunbroker with a starting bid of 785 and one at 795, both from the same seller but cant seem to find them now. other than better fit of parts and the obvious trigger and sights, what else is different between a gold cup and a standard govt model? is the slide lightened like i've read about on the older national match guns? thanks for the input, its appreciated!

It's not lighter. I believe the standard 38 ounces applies. They also have a national match barrel and bushing. Also I believe the frame to slide fit is tighter.

I am not sure I have mentioned it in this thread but a good ref for the Gold Cup is:
http://www.sightm1911.com/lib/history/nm.htm

Gold Cup prices are quite variable. Yes I just bought a good 1988 for $650, but I have seen very abused and hacked ones for $850. Interest in Colt Gold Cups is growing. In the West USA and SW USA I have seen Gold Cup prices generally climb about $200 over the last year or so.

yeah i've noticed the prices are all over the place. i saw one online with a cracked frame and they wanted a pretty good ammount for it. believe it was 700+. i hit the pawn shops tonight just to see if there were any around but didnt have any luck. i figure it'll be about a month before i buy anything anyways so i've got some time to shop around.

alright, i have pretty much settled on trying to find a nice gold cup national match so onto the next question... is there currently a replacement elliason style sight with tritium inserts? i have searched till i couldnt see straight and havent found one yet but you guys seem to dig up all the info i ask for. :o :p

I'm not aware of any sights that can be used like that. If it's for a carry gun my suggestion would be for just the front site to be tritium. Several pistolsmiths I talked to thought that was the best idea. But of course it's just a matter of preference.

Slimbo---I've never seen one????

I have made several exhaustive searches for sight options for the Cup's... Bo-Mar used to make a night sight replacement for the Eliasons, but discontinued them due to lack of interest.... I have an extra site that I would like to send somewhere to have tritium installed, but I need to find someone that will do it for me...
