This pistol was sitting in the gun shop for over a year. It was pre-owned but unfired. All paperwork and 2 mags came with gun and appears to be in excellent condition. Some small rattling when shaken and a little creep in trigger. Someone said that this is normal....I don't know enough about Colts to say so. But this gun is definitely a shooter after what I have read about the 9x23. The shop did not sell ammo so I am reloading from brass bought at Midway. Hope you like the pics and will give a range report when I have time to fire some rounds!

husky,
That is a very nice looking Colt 9 x 23 Win. Government Model you have there. We all look forward to your range report. Thanks, too, for the photos!

Very nice looking Colt, husky. Quite a find. I have yet to see a 9x23 at my local toy stores. Look forward to your range report.

That is one very sharp pistol you have there. I hope it shoots as good as it looks for you.

Nice 1911, thanks for the pics. I worked for a dealer when those were introduced and they didn't sell well at the time which of course probably makes them a rare gun now. The one we had never even got handled. I should have bought it myself.

Nice find! Plus I bet it is happy to have someone who loves it and shoots it versus being ignored in a gunstore.

Nice Colt and in 9X23 to boot. I have been looking at the 9X23 myself. That was a good buy, I am jealous.

That is nice! 9x23mm is a great cartridge. Like many great things, it is under appreciated.

Excellent cartridge, your Colt is just plain beautiful.
You will love this gun; my 9x23 is in a Commander and is a dream to shoot.
A 9x23 in a full size Colt is about as sweet as it gets
Let me know if you need load data, I have some.
Good Luck with the new gun :)

Congratulations! I sure like the looks of that flat slide top. That's what is on my Colt .22 conversion unit and I'm thinking about getting the flat top for my upcoming Caspian Commander project. Nice photos. Anxious to hear the range report.

Nice Shooter,
Mine is FR207xxE, the hammer scuffed the slide out of the box and required some stoning. Colt's QC during that period I'd call iffy. Other than that it goes bang everytime. It's hard to make 9x23 not feed reliably. Today I started a list of every 01923 I see on GB, AA, and GA. They want an arm and a leg for em these days. Alot of disinformation out there on just how many Colt made but I am thinking around 3000. The only Springer 9x23 I ever seen for sale on the internet I own. It is a way tighter better built gun but has a big BRAZIL stamp on it instead of a horsey therefore it's worth way less. I still love my Colt more.

Check this link Chug. It is basically a bigger (longer) 9mm.

As Hunter said, it's a hot rodded 9MM
It was developed to aid competitive shooters trying to make major power factor in .38 Super type guns. Without having to deal with case failure.
Also known as “. 38 Super face”
The 9x23 operates at very high pressure, and uses small rifle primers
This is a truly under appreciated cartridge.
Here is some cartridge information.

Hey thanks guys . Sounds like something I would really like to shoot. Do I understand ya right that the 9mm and the .38 super cartridge will fire in this?

Factory .38 Super probably won't fit in a 9x23 chamber, due to the semi-rim of the Super. 9mmP will fit in the 9x23 chamber, but you'd be relying on the extractor to hold the case securely enough for the firing pin to detonate the primer.
9x23 never caught on as a competition round, as the tapered case apparently doesn't feed as well in high-cap mags as does the cylindrical Super. Since necessity is the mother of invention, lots of work has been put into making the tapered 9mmP feed in hi-caps (who'd want to buy Super brass for their $3000 pistol, when 9mmP brass is often free?).

Husky,
That, without a doubt, is the most fantastic looking Colt, out of the box, that I have ever seen. Hope you enjoy it (an understatement I'm sure). Thank you so much for sharing those great pictures.
