What would be the correct grips for a late-1940s super 38, or is there a range of possibilities?
Thanks for the help.

This is a 5" gov't and Ser#66xxx puts it at 1947-48 I believe. The existing grips on the gun are fully checkered wood, but it seems like supers I've seen from the 50s have the plastic grips with the colt emblem. Anybody know what's correct for the 1947-48 period and when the plastic grips were used??

Plastic stocks were used from about 1947 to 1970. Clawson states some pistols were assembled post-war using prewar parts, but your serial would place your Super in 1948 I believe and should have plastic stocks by then I would think. The wood stocks maybe correct, I don't know if a call to Colt would help, but it might be worth a try.
