My vote would be for the Gold Cup or perhaps even the XSE. Read the forum posts by others who have owned the guns and you will see why. Happy hunting.

Hello gil220 and welcome to the forum,

Great idea of getting a Colt, eventually you'll get more and maybe even start trading in your SAs (I said maybe)

To answer your question, what do you want to do with your FIRST colt...if it's serious target shooting check out the Combat Special Gov. carry the XSE or Gunsite etc.

I am real good at spending other peoples money. :D

O2580CM Special Combat Government (Super 38, Blue/Satin Nickel)

If that is too much money I say.

O2071ELC2 .38 Super Bright stainless steel

:D

Get a simple Colt Government Model, Series 70 re-pro, Blue, 45ACP.
(Series 80, only if you must)

Probably the greatest handgun of all time, just as it comes, straight out
of the box.

SS Series 70 Reissue. Best fit and finish I have seen on a Colt!

I would go for the Colt Gold Cup Trophy as a good range/competition pistol or a Series 70 repo. The XSE lines as I understand it is also an excellent choice and what collection of 1911s would be complete without a Colt Commander?. Tough choice that said I will have to vote for the GCT, it will do it all in my opinion.
You will do good with any 1911 with the Rampant Pony on it.

I'm with John, get the basic Commander. Classic Colt goodness.

My 2¢ — I would echo sff70, boldkharma and Capt America — A Series 70 re-issue in .45 ACP, Blue. Pretty close to what JMB had in mind in the first place...

Looks like you might have to get several, I have a GCNM that I shoot most but the 70 repro comes in a close second tied with the WWI repro, delta elite, officers and gunsite cco!!!!! see what I mean you need more than one

It probably would have been useful to mention what the use of the new Colt will be. If it's to have the finest of what Colt currently offers, I think I'd go with the WW1 reissue. But I think that's TOO nice for use as a daily carry pistol. The Series 70 Government is, as somebody noted above, about as close to a true M1911A1 as you'll find (the WW1 reissue being true to the original M1911), and would be my choice for an all-purpose Colt.

However, my preferences run more toward self-defense and I'm not especially concerned with target-grade accuracy. I think the Combat Commander looks better proportioned and balances better in my hands, so I'll second John's vote for the 1991 Series Combat Commander.

I would vote Colt XSE Commander.

There's several really good models available........the series 70 Gov't would be a good choice. (as well as the others that were mentioned previously)

I would vote Colt XSE Commander.

Another excellent suggestion, so excellent in fact I have on on the way.

O4540XSE Lightweight Commander .38 Super.

There really are too many enablers around here! :)

Seeing that you already have TRP, Loaded and GI, I would choose the Special Combat Government.

OK,i think, i'm going for a Series 70 re-issue in blue.at my gun shop.it is going for $8.29.00 is these good.they said that it is hard to get so i am going to jump on it if you think that a good price....

jeff1124

Its a pretty good price, I always compare to budsgunshop.com when looking at new Colts.
right now buds has one...O1970A1CS Colt 1911 Gov't .45 ACP Blue Buy Now $766.39
They do have a shipping charge + there would be an FFL transfer charge, figure 40 or 50 more, so 829 is pretty good for on the spot pickup!

I'm with Jeff. That's a good price, and I'm sure you'll like it.

I'd go with a blued Gov't whatever your flavor. If it's just that one Colt, get WWI or 1911-A1 blued...

Dead

Psst: Thar Combat Commander in blue sure looks sweet as well -- hint: you can easily dump that series 80 junk...
