Just picked it up tonight. Not great photos but, you get the point right? It is new in the box. Has not been fired since the factory. CLW0373xx This brings me to 3 commanders. :D

That's a great looking Commander, Rick. Congratulations! I really like the Commanders...I have four now (one 9mm, one .38 Super, and two in .45) and am in the process of building one in 9mm. I'm always on the lookout for one like you found, but the ones I see usually don't have the original box. Wow! I love it!

Very nice Colt Rick. Those Commanders seem to be catching.

Good find! I am also always on the lookout for any older Colt at a reasonable price.

Rick,
Although I'm echoing what everyone else here has said, I'm very happy for you and your GREAT find! Thank you, too, for the pictures of your new/old Commander with the original box. I always get the "warm/fuzzies" whenever I see those old Colt boxes, as well as the old S&W blue boxes. Something about taking me back to my youth. :D

Thanks Guys,
This brings me to 3 Commanders, 2 Officers, 3 Fullsize all in 45. I also found an ACE Comm. that is new in the box. That's next.

Nice Cmdr! I have 4 myself (and 2 OM's and 3 GM's, Coincidence?) I love Commanders, hope it shoots as good as it looks! Let us know when you take her out to the range! :) :)

Nice. Congrats. One of the first in my collection was a .38 Super Commander. I truly love it. Will never part with it. Fine carry. Shoot yours in good health.

Thanks again!

Any ideas on what the age might be? I believe pre 70's based on the CLWXXX serial number but, I am not positve. I looked all over the place for a clue.

Great find...my all time favorite 1911. Call Colt to get the exact DOB, but my guess is that it was made in the '70s sometime based on the grips that its wearing and the box.

Rick,
I have received ball park manufacture dates from a gun show dealer friend. I bring him a cup of coffee and a donut and he'll look over his glasses at me and ask what now, but he will always bring out the worst for wear book and look up a serial no. for me. My Commander LW is early '60's vintage. I removed the smooth medallion grips and replaced them with rubber Houge. I have the original grips tucked away and still look as good as the day I bought the. The gun has some character and holster wear. Good luck - Jeff
