Im looking at buying my first Colt and have two im considering. I have a local friend that has a combat commander, born somewhere around 1988 or so. (I could be off by a few years here, just going off what I remember him telling me). Im just wondering what the differences are between that gun and one of the newer 1991 series commanders? Would it be just the firing pin safety and cosmetics, or ?? My plan is to send it off to Yo-Bo to become a 1* elite. Thanks for any guidance!

I have an 80 series "born" in 1991. The new Commanders will also have the 80 series firing pin block. This is a different design than the one used on the Kimbers (I also have several Kimbers).
Many of us on the forum have whined about Colt not currently making a Commander and Combat Commander without the firing pin block parts, like the Gov 70 series. Colt could finally rollmark it as a "70 Series Commander" maybe.
Anyway, coming down off the soap box, I generally think the new Commanders are better machined than those in the 80's and early 90's. That does not mean that Colt does not make a lemon today or did not make a fantastic Commander in the 80's and early 90's. There are several cosmetic changes such as roll marks and grips.
