Hi!

I'd like to hard chrome my Nork. And I have some questions:

1) I read that hard chrome finish can be polished, matte or brushed. I know what polished and matte look like. But brushed? Can anybody explain or show me how it looks?

2) Should I also hard chrome the little pieces like slide stop, safety…? Or should I only hard chrome the slide and the frame?

3) Hard chroming means adding 1/10 mm to all surface. Will it not make the slide jam?

Thanks for your informations!

well, 1st off - 1/10mm = less than a half thou, So - how much play do you have? 2nd, Chrome plating takes about 1 hr/thou. You can have it plated as thick as you wish. All that, but you might pay and ask a gunsmith about your free play. Just keep in mind that HC is *really* hard, and hard to file down, too.

I'm thinking that if you can, with the hammer at full cock) rock the slide back and forth (side-to-side/up-down) and feel or hear the click/clunk, you will be fine.. and better off than you were.. Otherwise, ask someone who is willing to back up his words with deeds.

just $0.03

To answer your question about a brushed finish, that's where a buffing wheel and grit are used to add some polish, but not so much that the buffing marks are removed. Bob Cogan's website (http://www.apwcogan.com/Refinishing.htm) explains the differences.

Sort of in between. The brushed finish resembles the shiny parts of a stainless gun. If you get the flat portions of the gun brush finished and the rounds matte finish it gives a nice two-tone effect.

Here's a good example of an HKP7 done that way.
