I was in for my weekly 1911 return to SIG and asked what they were charging to ship the pistol from the west coast to NH, the woman said $52.

At this rate I'm going to have a $1500 GSR Revo by the end of the year. :D

You'd better buy some UPS stocks then!

Would that help fix my GSR? :D

No, but it could lower your UPS costs!

Sig is paying the bill. They at least got that part right.

Well, im pretty sure it costs more from HI to NH and mine has been sent twice already. So thats at least $200+ from me. Not to mention all the other cases I hear where people are sending back their GSR's. I would hope that Sig has some kind of discounted rate from UPS with all the money their losing.

SIG called on Monday and said they were replacing the pistol. They were shipping a new gun out ASAP. I'm out of town so I won't get it for a few days.

SIG has worked very hard to keep me happy. Wait times on the phone are pretty long but they do not lack in CS.

Well aren't you lucky! How are you going to treat those CS reps on the phone for the 3 trips this one is going to take?

;)

I'm glad I won't have to hear about your newest shipping label on THAT gun anymore...

At least SIG is actually working on my gun/shipping my gun/making an effort, how long has S&W had your 1911? a month and half? When are they going to even look at it?

I'd rather have a working pistol and not need the CS but we are talking about a 1911 so what are the chances?

Pardon my ignorance, and it's none of my business anyway, but what problems are you having with your SIG? I was actually hoping to get one some day soon.

UPS has given us an incentive to ship one firearm in two packages, as parts. That way, you can use the retail stores and ship via UPS Ground.

I assume that you are talking about two part shipping by someone who is not an FFL holder and you talking about a handgun but his applies to long guns too. One of the two boxes is going to contain a firearm, you have to tell the carrier that according to ATF rules no mater what parts you take off except the serial numbered "frame". So if you tell UPS it is a firearm and all you are getting around is UPS shipping "rule" more power to you.

Below is what the ATF 'Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide' (ATF P 5300.4) says:

(B9) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by carrier?

A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by carrier to a resident of his or her own state or to a licensee in any state. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm. [18 U. S. C. 922( a)( 2)( A) and 922( e), 27 CFR 178.31]

Clarence Whorley

Yep, the frame is the firearm. Just like if you were to order parts for a build from Caspian, you'd have to have the frame sent to an FFL and go through the proper channels to acquire it. The other parts would all go straight to your house.

The owner of a firearm can ship directly to the factory, and the factory can return it to the owner.

Still, it's only UPS' rule that you break if you ship UPS Ground, whether it is a complete firearm or parts, as long as the to-and-from is legal.

I'm not advocating breaking law. I just think UPS has given us an incentive to get around their rules, which amount to a five to ten percent commission on both the interstate sale and the repair of guns.

You are also breaking a FEDERAL LAW by not claiming it as a firearm.... That part is not UPS regulated.... ANYONE NOT DECLAIRING THEIR FIREARM IN SHIPPMENT IS SUBJECT TO HAVING THAT FIREARM TAKEN AWAY FOR NOT TELLING THEM ABOUT IT>>>>> TAKING IT APART AND CALLING IT PARTS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA>>>>>

One should measure the actual cost of the firearm over the savings in shipping.... Save a few bucks, and possibly loose several hundred....

I will bet it is the office or some idiot you are dealing with there...my UPS guy has no problem shipping weapons and I have done it about 10 times in the last 3 years...recently to GLOCK, Teddy Jacobson (3 different pistols), etc...
I know when I tried to send VIA my area FedEx (their prices were MUCH cheaper and the closer FedEx/Kinkos is open later) and told the 16 year old (picture the pimply faced kid in The Simpsons...:Mr. Simpson...with his voice cracking...HE was the manager...) acted like I handed him a bomb...wouldn't touch it and told me I had to go to the main office (nasty area of the town and FAR from me) as they had an FFL there...not here...I don't use FedEx for anything anymore...good luck.

Trade it off as soon as you get it!!!

Get yourself a Springfield Armery TRP Operator. My TRP was flawless straight out of the box - not one cosmetic booger. It has been 100% reliable with all ammo I have shot in it and it is also very accurate and is a very enjoyable gun to shoot.

You can't go wrong with a TRP, in my opinion. Nor can you go wrong with a Les Baer Thunder Ranch 1911! :D

With all due respect, Sproingfelt Armoree is probably the very last company I would buy a 1911 from.

Sproingfelt Armory sounds like some imitation of Sprinfield Armory.

At least your XDs work for you....

Enough about shipping. I'm looking forward to hearing about that SIG 1911 when it comes back, Nitrox!

SIG Arms finally sent me a new Revolution. They said the delay was caused by a shortage in production. Total time for replacement was about six weeks.

Here is the differences between the new gun and the old gun (I still have not fired it).

-Overall fit of slide is tighter and smoother.
-Stainless finished barrel instead of Nitron.
-Hand polished breach face, feed ramps, and barrel throat.
-Stainless finished skeleton commander hammer instead of black solid commander hammer.
-Solid trigger.
-20 LPI MSH with dummy cord loop instead of 25 LPI MSH (I prefer the old).
-No trigger safety plunger plug in slide.
-Trigger feel is identical.
-Thinner safety.
-Unmarked magazines that fit with no play instead of loose Novaks.
-Full length slide rails instead of the front and rear/two part rails.
-Sights are now white ring front Novaks and silver ring rear Novaks instead of white ring front and rear.
-The barrel bushing was tight enough to warrant using a barrel wrench, the old was smooth but loose.

I'll shoot it this week end.

ETA: Added more changes.

My GSR Carry is currently at SiG for the 3rd time so I voted 3rd time is a charm. Mine is stainless and fails to return to battery on the last round 2 to 3 times out of every 100 rounds. There are also a few other minor issues but I can live with those.

What magazines are you using? The OEM mags may not actually work, regardless of what SIG says or does. Have you tried any other kinds of mags?

The federal regulations only apply to the mail. Private carriers are just that ...private. Please feel free to call your local BATF to verify...
