I enjoy shooting alot, especially the 1911. I have a few colts, and now this Sig. Though not a "true" 1911, I have thoroughly enjoyed it thusfar. About 600 rnds of jhp, fmj, etc, with no problems at all and good groups at 15 and 25.

What I would like to know is a few things. The beavertail safety is a weird shape, and i would like to replace it. Also, I was thinking, can I replace the safety on it with a series 70 plate, and get rid of the series 80 type safety system?

What parts would I need to get, and who would you suggest for these two operations?

Lastly, the pistol came with novak night sights. I would like to replace with a heine front sight and 10-8 rear as seen on their sight. I know the rear will fit as it is made for the novak low mount cut which I have. The front sight on the 10-8 sale sight says it's made for kimber. Is my front cut the same? Also, they make it in .200 and .175 height, which is better. My weapon seems to shoot dead on right now.

I know this is alot of questions, but I trust your experience in these matters,,,,

thanks in advance.

Sig uses an oddly shaped beaver tail plus it is stainless with the Nitron finish.

The filler plate will require fitting much like anything else 1911 related. I had to file the forward edge and reduce the overall thickness for min to fit. They are cheap enough to buy an extra to practice on.

I have emailed sig, and asked them what the radius cut is on their gsr revolution. I will post this information as soon as i get a response, as I am sure it would be helpful to other owners. I have also noticed today, that a roll pin is used in the front sight, I am assuming to keep it dead center. The heine sight on the 10-8 sale sight does not have one, I am assuming that will not be a problem. The rear sight is novak low mount cut, and so is the sigs by their own description. I am thinking the sight install should not be a problem.
As to the series 80 question, I will have to mull that one over in time. I don't mind doing a little hand fab, however I need a list of parts that will have to be replaced to remove the series 80 safety. I will also have to buy a book or see an online guide on how to replace it.
