Im thinking of getting a elite 1* package on a colt. Just want input how good the package is and craftmanship of the gun. Do you recommand getting a gun custom or buying a semi custom gu?

YoBo does FANTASTIC work at a reasonable price.

The very best way to go is a full custom gun on either a Colt new series 70 or Springfield Milspec. You can get it the way YOU want it, and done right the first time.

If you don't want to wait and can find a "package" of features on a high-end prodution/semi-custom gun (Baer, Brown, NHC, Wilson, etc), the Thunder Ranch is a good way to go. A lot of gun for the money.

Go for the Yost! I love mine and challenge you to find someone who does not love theirs!

I went for the elite package on my Colt Series 80 Commander (except I wanted checkering instead of the serations on front and rear of the grips). The guns runs like a champ and looks great to go with it. :)

I have a Y-B gun, but it's not an 1* series. It is a SA OPerator that was ordered by someone else (I think before there was the 1* series), and I won it in one of the LTW raffles last year.

It's perhaps the finest gun I own. I don't think there is a part of the gun that was not touched, and helped, in some way. And most of it was so subtle that it took a while to find it all. I was noticing new things each time I looked it over for almost a year. For all I know, there are things done that I'll never find.

After getting that Y-B gun, I had to have a Y-B HiPower. I scraped together enough money to send off a HiPower within a few weeks.
Perhaps that's the best testimony I can give.

What is Yobo's turn around time up to now?

Of course, it's best to ask them, and it depends upon what you are getting done.

But-
If it tells you anything, I have a HiPower due back any day that got a pile of work done, and it will be right at one year. I looked around for a long time before sending that gun to Y-B, and think one year is pretty impressive for the work done, although they are apologizing for how long it took.

I would think 1911s go faster than HiPowers, simply because they get a lot more of them coming through.
Also, I would think it's faster to order a package, and the more you add (like I did), the longer it takes.

The 1*s they do regularly are downright speedy.

I was told generally 3-4 months on a 1* package. Hope to have my base gun found within the next couple weeks and get her sent off shortly thereafter.

So true; I apologize for my error. Here are a couple of my Commander twins that had 1* elite packages with checkering instead of serations. enjoy

Well, I didn't know if I should put up a HiPower pic when everyone was talking 1911s, ya know.

Here's one, from when I opened the box for the first time:

NIce Commanders, JeffVN. Looks like just how I would order them. I guess I would just have them copy your order!

I had a 1* package done on my Series I Kimber Classic Stainless in 2005. It is absolutely one of the finest weapons I have ever laid eyes on and I do not regret for one minute spending the money.

Fit, finish, lock-up, trigger, all flawless. And, if I do my part she is a tack driver.

I can't access pictures from work due to policy restrictions but I would be more than happy to email pics to anyone.

Update on the Yost-Bonitz HiPower:
I've had it about a month now. I have 530 rounds through it (would have more, but was gone over Christmas/New Years and it's rained and rained and rained). I've had zero malfunctions with it, it shoots well, the trigger is great, and I'm smitten with the gold line front sight.
It moved into my holster a couple of days ago as my regular carry gun.

Last fall I had a customer come in wanting to trade his beat to **** Colt Combat Commander on one of my rifles.
I had been looking for such a gun to send of to Yost for a 1* Premier build, and this was perfect since the previous owner had abused the gun from a cosmetic standpoint.

Yes, that's an improvement. Looks great. They sure do good work, don't they?

How do you like the gold line front sight so far? I didn't know if I was going to like it or not, but wanted to give it a try. I like it, and like it more all the time. I wouldn't mind having it on a few more guns.

Hmmm, I have a Commander just like that one started out...

By the way, Kustom Ballistics/Neil Keller does nice work too, huh?

I really like the gold line treatment.
Its amazing how fast your eye picks up the front sight!
As fast as fiber optic, and twice as classy :D
