I am considering buying a Springfield GI or Mil Spec and sending into Wilson for a makeover. What options does everyone on this board recommend and what are some things to stay away from. I am looking at all of my options right now for a 1911 and this is one of them. I am still new to 1911's and my only one is a Kimber Pro CDP. Thanks in advance.

First of all, I am not sure Wilson Combat is still doing custom work on customer's supplied pistols. You'd better verify that with them first.

Second, since this is not a question about a Wilson Combat pistol, but about customizing your pistol, I think it should be moved to the General Discussion area.

They still have a place for work on customer supplied guns on thier custom work order form.

John,

Would this thread best be moved to the Custom Guns section? Can you move it if that's the case? I would like to get the most out of this topic as I can. Thanks again.

Oh well, why not, let's see if it will get some more attention there.

Also, what would be my best option as a base model pistol to make a custom 1911? Springfield, Rock Island, and maybe a used colt may be some options. Let me know. Thanks.

Well, if you do not have the gun, why don't you get a Wilson frame/slide set to start with? Why buy a whole gun, to have it customized? It doesn't make sense to me. I think you will eventually end up spending more money than if you start with a WC model and take it from there.
