Ok, took a little longer than expected, but here's the pictures of my PT1911 with the Duracoat finish. There are a couple flaws in the frame, so the refinisher is going to refinish it again, but here's what it looks like now. The only additions are a Smith and Alexander mag well, and a set of Carbon Creations carbon fiber grips. The holster is a Blackhawk CQC Carbon Fiber. Knife is a CRKT My Tighe assisted opener. Light is a Blackhawk "Night Ops Gladius". Sorry if these are too big, I don't know how to make them smaller. Here ya go:

I never cared much for two tone pistols, but that one is a dazzler, sir.
Is it Duracoat over hard chrome ?
And on more question - was the factory finish starting to fail ? I have heard that the blued models fade pretty fast. Just wondering - it has to be a relatively new pistol to consider refinishing.

It is duracoat on both. I am debating on doing a brushed hard chrome on the frame instead though. There are a couple little spots on the frame that need touching up, and the guy who did it wants to redo the frame completely. The only thing I didn't care for on the gun was the finish. The gun shop I bought it at just starting offering the Duracoat, so I told them to do it before I even brought it home. The slide and small parts are done in HK Black, and it looks good. The frame is the Duracoat "Stainless Steel" color. If it didn't have the couple small flaws, it would be fine. I've also thought about just making the whole gun the HK Black too. Decisions, decisions....

You mention "flaws." Are they in the metal and showing through or poorly applied Duracoat? Looks good in the photo.

They are in the application of the Duracoat. The metal is fine. The finisher is aware of it, and wants to redo the frame. I'm thinking about going with a brushed hard chrome instead. Thanks for the compliments though!

Looks great. I really like the fact you can't see those huge graphics on the slide flats.

I talked to a friend of mine who has used DuraKote. He tells me it's pretty easy to apply. Cost is about $38 per spray can (each color).

Thanks for the link. As this is my 1st 1911, which grips do I need to fit my PT1911? There are like 3 or 4 different sizes. Thanks in advance.

Any 1911 grip should fit yours. They have regular sizes as well as slim. If you get slim grips you'll have to change the grip screws and grip bushings for slimmer ones.
Try http://www.vzgrips.com they make a great product.

You'll likely need a new set of grip screws, anyway.
The heads of the Taurus screws are oversize and wouldn't fit the new grips I bought.

I'm thinking about Duracoating my PT1911 too, but I'm thinking about going all black with mine. That is a sharp looking pistol though, I'll have to give that a think through before I have either one done. That 2 tone does look very sharp.

That's a great looking PT.
I may have to copy that.
Anyone have any idea what it would cost to do a 2 tone & the mag well?
