I've got a new SA Mil-spec, and I'm looking into getting some rubber grips with finger grooves. My S&W 686 rovolver came with this style of grips from the factory that are similar to the Hogue ones that are sold most everywhere (they may have been built by Hogue?), and they feel great. I've been looking around the net and IMO these Pachmayr Signature GM-G grips look better on a 1911 than the Hogues from the pictures that I've seen, but I don't think there is a dealer in town that carries them. I should just wait a few weeks until the next show comes around, but I'm itchin' to order a set. Has anybody used these things? If so, what is your opinion of them in terms of quality and how they feel? Are there any other mfgr's that make this style that I should look at too?

I don't know the manufacturer, but CDNN has some nice ones that replicate a traditional double-diamond checkering pattern on the grips and have the finger-groove front strap. They are decent quality and CHEAP -- in the meaning of "inexpensive," not "inferior quality." I grabbed a couple of pair and I'm very happy with them.

Their web site is www.cdnnsports.com The site uses frames, so I can't give you a link direct to the specific part. Click on handgun grips, then 1911 grips, then scroll down 'til you see them.

Thanks. They are cheap. I ordered a set to try them out.

Correction -- they are "inexpensive." I put them on a couple of projects I'm playing with, and I am very happy with them or I wouldn't have steered you to them.

The best part is, at that price it doesn't matter if they get all scarred up from carry wear because when they get so ugly I can't stand to look at them, it won't break the bank to toss 'em.

If you like the grips that you already have, but still want the rubber grooves on the front, Pearce sells a front strap piece that is secured by your grips. It might actually comes in a set, with two checkered panels, and the front strap cover, but you can use the front strap with any grips.

The Pierce unit I have seen consists of a front grip piece, and pannels that sit under your existing grips... They will add a bit of width to your pistol.

I did see those Pierce ones. The factory grips that I have are the hard diamond pattern and they are rougher than I like, so I ordered a set of these from CDNN to try out. I figure the rubber diamond pattern should be a little easier on the hands. I really like the feel of the Hogues, but I think these will look a little more natural on a 1911. For $8 there's not much to lose.

I love the Pearce grip enhancments. All my pistols have them. I use the finger groove enhancements with any grip panels and will always have a consistent grip. Pearce makes them for full size or officers. They last forever.

I just got a set of the grips from cdnn sports, and I'm pleased with them. They fit well, they feel good and they look great for $8. According to the packaging the brand is Target Sports. Their shipping cost was a little high, but it was really quick and they threw in a S&W scissors tool that will probably come in handy for something.
