What would make the non-ambi thumb safety impossible to pull out without taking off the MSH? The function checks seem to be normal. What could be putting pressure on it to not allow removal?

You did remember to cock the hammer before trying to remove the thumb safety, didn't you? If the hammer is not cocked, you can't move the safety to its mid-point. I imagine that after the MSH is removed, the hammer flops backward naturally, in effect going into the cocked position.

:) I think they need a little icon for 'I feel so stupid'. I was thinking about the hammer being forward for the MSH and forgot about the hammer being cocked for the safety. Thanks for the heads up.

Next to the "Why isn't the slide coming out?" question (answer: Remove the magazine first, dummy), this is the thing that frustrated me the most, when I was younger (and less experienced). I believe there is not a single 1911 shooter who hasn't had that brain-collapse once in his life-time. So don't worry about it.

I'm afraid that I did that too, but at least I figured out what was wrong on that one.
