Colt’s “Teflon” coating on Lightweight Commanders.

I am going to apologize in advance if this is in the wrong place; I vacillated on whether it should go here or the Colt forum.

Anyway, I want a 38 Super Commander, and that means my only option is an XSE stainless lightweight with a Teflon silver frame.

What is the coating? Is it similar to the polymer coatings or is it something else? Could it be removed and the entire pistol coated with Black T without harming the underling alloy? Could the same type of coating be made black by Colt’s Custom shop and applied to the slide as well?

What I am looking for here is options for making the Commander black without harm to the frame!

I could be wrong, but I think Colt is using a Teflon impregnated anodize on those.
If so, I doubt ANYTHING will stick to it! That means removal before refinishing.
Call APW or BearCoat, they can prolly give you the straight scoop.
