$450 in a shop in Belleville, Illinois. Taurus rep was there with a dozen guns and all were on sale. You could test fire one to your heart's content. I ran 50 rounds through the test gun and bought one of the twelve on the spot. The first gun out of the case had a slight flaw on the finish, so we fished out a second gun - which was wrapped in brown paper (unlike the first) - and I purchased that one. I also got a free $150 membership to the shooting range and 10% off on all ammo purchases. Since then I've run all sorts of ammo through the Taurus to the tune of 400 rounds without any problem. It was a great buy at $450. $598 seems high, in fact, very high, but I've heard these guns are hard to find and I may have gotten lucky walking in the shop on just the right day. I guess somebody wanted me to have a PT1911.

Seems high...there are a bunch on Gunbroker w 'Buy It Nows' of 500 - 520 and the local, always over-priced shop was 539. If bought on-line, of course, you have shipping and FFL transfer but not sales tax.

I am getting it from a local shop that is more conceal and carry training than a regular dealer. He has different distributors he works with. Basically I order the gun from him, he gets it from the dist, and they ship back to him overnight. The gun was 15% over cost on a Xmas special. I should have it by Wednesday, hopefully. The name of the place is Discount Guns and Training ftp in San Antonio.

I purchased mine at the Cabella's just recently opened here in Boise. Sticker said $489, signed up for a Cabella's credit card and got a $15 credit, got my girlfriend to sign up for a card to and got a $40 credit, put the purchase on the new card and got $100 off for spending at least $450 during their Christmas sale promotion. Total out the door was $334 and I still get another $10 credit on my next purchase as part of the new credit card promotion. :D

This afternoon, I located a blued PT1911 for $449. I asked them to hold it till morning, as there wasn't time to get there before closing.
I paid $545 for my first one in September and $439 for the second one in October. Since then, I've called where I bought the second one several times, but this is the first time I've caught them with one in stock.
My buddy talked me out of #2, so this will be a replacement for it.
At last weekend's Pasadena,TX show, I only saw one and it was priced $595.

Well........I didn't get the Kimber either. My wife (believe it or not) talked me into getting a S&W SW1911PD. I paid a bit more for it than the Kimber but it already has the Novak sights and wood grips so the Kimber would have been as much after replacement. I have always had 686s so the Smith seemed a natural purchase I guess. I might still get a PT once they are more available but for now I guess I am a Smith man. Thanks for everyone's feedback!

They're gonna price themselves right out of the game. I'm thinking about one right now. Found one for $550 but I'm hesitating. I really would rather have a 9mm rather than another .45 1911. So I have been waiting for the release of the PT1911 in 9mm (if that EVER happens). If there is less than $200 difference, I'm inclined to get the Para. At $550, there's only about $60 difference between this gun and the Kimber Custom II. Not all the same features, but close. I regularly see the Kimber TLEs going for right at $720 (I have one) and that one has all of the same features except the ambi safety BUT you get Kimbers excellent factory night sights standard. Right now, the only real reason I'm thinking I'd get the Taurus is b/c the Springfield 1911 in 9mm I want is $800 and I've had good luck in the past with Taurus. If Taurus does something to reduce the savings, I'm inclined to go with Springfield or Para.

Seems as though the laws of supply and demand have leaped upon Taurus with all their fury!! I'd wait before I paid $800.00 for the SS. Plan to have one to go along with my $500.00 blue model but will look until I find one far more attractively priced than that.

Well the Taurus is nice but ....
It sure ain't no Springfield or a Colt. So the suggested retail will be less in acutuality, say $675.00 to $725.00 - not for that amount of coin I would by a Springfield or Colt or a another Sig XO
I got my Taurus's for $399.00 when they were first out. To me that was a great price. $450 is fair price for the blued.
Not $750!!!! Particularly given there track record on customer service - no way - I wish them luck!!!!
Gunner777
11th March 2007, 12:55
It will never get that high. I know the suggested retail is that high but only the worst gunshops ever sell at suggested retail. If so then I'm going for a Colt, SA etc.
I said months ago that if they went up in price very much they would price themselves out of the target market.

They currently have in stock the regular PT1911 for $509.95 and the laser equipped for $669.95.
I didn't ask how many of each they had.
Apparently, their policy is to make $25 per gun, so their prices rise as their costs from distributors do.

Hey Kenny G,
I live in B'ham AL & purchased a Taurus PT1911 from the Gun Cellar for $599.00 (including tax) out the door. The problem is that Taurus can't seem to keep up with the demand (or maybe they are creating the demand, hmmm) & the wholesalers are charging the dealers more to get them. And sorry, but there doesn't seem to be any used PT1911's on the market right now. IMHO for all features you get in the Taurus PT1911, any price under $600 is a steal. So you'll have to decide if the price is far. I haven't found anyone in this forum who is ready to give up their Taurus at any price.

I bough mine at bAss pro shops for $479 on 3/21/07 they had two the one on display had a few minor wear marks on the barrel from being cycled so I asked for another. They had one in the back still in the brown paper and all greasy from the factory. I looked it over and bought it. I went back six days later and they still had the display with the very minor marks but their prices had gone up by $90.
I have since put about 600 rounds through and not one failure. The only negative thing I can even say about this fine little gun is that the finish does tend to show wear and marks easily, but this is not a mantle peice it is made to shoot. And shoot it does very accurate I am just getting over the break in period, the slide moves like it is on ball bearings. I dont care what anyone says about this gun I think most of the b.s. you hear is from people that are ticked that they paid three times what we did to get a gun as good as ours.
I do want to get some new sights for mine. I am not a huge fan of hennie for target shooting, I would really like a nice green/rear red/front fiber optic sight. i hear hennie is making some different sights as well as Novak which should be out in the next couple of months.
As for the finish I am actually glad it is weak that way I wont feel as bad when I hard crome it, two-tone maybe.
I did out hogue rubber grips with the fingers, lets see some pics.
