This might be a dumb question, but I received my staker tool today from brownell's. I noticed that the tip was loose and needed to be locked in place. The question is (does the tip sit front to back or out 90 degrees from the slide). Im not sure and the directions do not say.
Thanks

Mine sits at about 45 degrees. That's the way it arrived from Brownells and it seems to work okay.

thanks for the reply....I guess what Im asking is when staking the front sight do you mash it in half(front bushing, back toward chamber) or left to right i.e. like you were trying to chisel the barrel in half.

I told you ... the "blade" on mine sits at 45 degrees to the frame. So the hash marks it puts into the tenon are diagonal to the slide. You're not trying to cut the tenon in half, the idea is to uniformly mash it down into the slight recess in the slide (which you may need to cut with a small ball cutter on a dreaded Dremel), then you use a round file and/or a Dremel to smooth out the misshapen mass of metal you just created enough to allow the bushing to fit into the slide again.
