Well, I am very new to 1911s and am just trying to obtain some valuable research and opinions from all the very knowledgable people here.
Here's the situation. If you had 3000 dollars to spend and were going to get a matched pair of 1911s in the government size, which ones would you get?
Simple question, but I'm sure there will be a tons of answers. Thanks ahead of time for all the help. I'm so glad I found this site.

Welcome to the forum. Try and find a matched pair of Colts. That will be your best all around option.

I agree, that kind of money should score a pair of Special Combat GOV'T Models.

If I had $3000 and I were looking for a pair of Government size 1911s, I wouldn't buy a "matched" pair. I would buy a new Colt WW1 replica, and I'd find the newest, most pristine Colt WW2 replica I could find as its mate. The WW1 is still in production. The WW2 was sold out a couple of years ago but it's still possible to find pristine examples. Might even be able to find one NIB, but that would be extremely fortuitous.
What I'd have would be the set, one M1911 and one M1911A1. With luck, for that $3000 you'd still have enough left over to buy a new M1991 Colt Government or Commander as a shooter.

I agree with Hawkmoon. A WW1 and WW2 replica with money left over to buy a shooter. What's not to like. :)
