1911 guide plug and bushing
How important is the bushing and guide plug
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do these need to be "fitted" or how important are the ones that came with your pistol?
I guess I am wondering because I may have SiGARMS replace the bushing and guide plug on my GSR Revolution STX along with the ambi-safety (right side paddle) as I believe I got the wrong ones with my pistol...does the pistol need to be sent in, or can these possibly be sent to me for installation by me with the parts returned to SiGARMS???
I have calls in (messages) to SiG as well as email but am waiting for a reply and wondered what you all think.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'll give this a shot. A couple of your questions are confusing so I'm not sure if my answer will be correct.

Very. The gun won't function without them.
Do these need to be "fitted" or how important are the ones that came with your pistol?
The bushing usually does require a small bit of fitting if it is a match grade bushing. The guide plug should not.

What is leading you to think this?

Sorry...didn't mean to be so vague...didn't want to say much and appear to be bashing SiG...because STXs I have seen prior to mine and after mine have a silver "bare stainless" look to the bushing and guide plug (GI Guide Rod...no full length) so I was wondering if SiG might send me out a new silver guide plug and bushing to replace my Nitron'd ones or if I would have to lose the pistol for a while. Same goes for the right side paddle of the ambisafety...thought if they had a blended one that just dropped in since mine is not as the ones I have viewed just prior and just after my serial number are blended on the rear edge and not "square shouldered" like the one I have is...ordered the same time with my brother and his is just like mine...lastly...no Custom Shop logo either to which SiG already told me that wasn't right and they would correct...I am not so concerned with the COLOR of the plug or the bushing, not even the Custom Shop logo etched in the slide...being left handed I HAVE to have the right side paddle and the square shouldered one I have wore a hole into my left thumb by the second joint...If they could send me the parts...great...then maybe I would just do that...if I send in the gun, might as well have all of it done...just curious as to why we were "singled out" for these differences when serial numbers both before and after ours have the other parts...
Thanks,
Bill

What is a guide plug ? Are you talking about the recoil spring plug?

From what I recall the Sig 1911s have went through several evolutions since the first of the GSRs came out. Yours could have been made around the time they were transitioning from one evolution to the next. That's what it sounds like.
The thumb safety does have to be fitted as it is what blocks the sear and keeps the hammer from falling. This should be done by someone who knows how. The other stuff sounds cosmetic, but may be covered under your warranty.
I would send it back to Sig.

thanks...just to be clear...mine are SiG STXs that didn't come into being before May of this year...furthermore, I have seen them one way BEFORE my serial number, mine are different, then the ones AFTER my serial number are just like the ones BEFORE mine.
well, ideally I would have liked to hear that no problems and they would send me the right side proper paddle for the ambi safety but I must send them in...anyway, perhaps they'll check the whole pistol out.
Thanks for the advice.

Bushing needs to be fitted to the barrel and to the slide. Thumb safety needs to be fitted to the sear. The only part you can expect to be a drop-in one, is the recoil spring plug.
