View Full Version : Ejection Problem

I just purchased a SW1911PD. I have about 400 rounds through it and it has performed completely reliably. The problem I am having is the last round in the magazine is ejected straight back and hits me in the forehead. All the others are ejected 5-6 feet to the right. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this and how to fix it?

Dave, I am NOT any kind of gun expert at all, but if I was forced to guess, I would bet that this is some sort of magazine problem. What brand of mags do you use? I would try another (or several) brand and see how it performs. The reason I'm thinking mags is that it's the only thing that "changes" at the last round. Same gun, same shell casing, same ejector.....but, add the magazine follower into the equation...

Most probably a weak magazine spring in those mags. Try shooting the pistol with some different mags and see if it happens again.

Dr. Tunerfish's diagnosis...Extractor. Do a field tension test on a round with the magazine removed. Betcha when it clears the chamber, it'll fall through, I betcha. ;)

Hey Johnny, I think those guns have external extractors. Not much he can do about it, but clean it and reassemble it.

I'm bettin' that clean and free-movin' will do the trick, John...and it it doesn't, the spring is the next suspect.
