Which 45 ACP 230 gr. hollowpoint has a history of feeding well in a Colt 45 Gov. Model? I know that all pistols are different, but which ones has a better chance of feeding? Please list several.

Here is just my $.02. As far as for my gun, the Corbon PowR'Ball 165gr. +P, Speer Gold Dot 200gr. +P, and Remington 230 Golden Sabre's all do fine. Hope this little bit of info helps.

I haven't tried the Cor-Bon powerball which looks like a good feeder. Of the JHPs I've tried Remington Golden Sabre has fed most consistently. I've also had good success with Winchester RA45T in 5" 1911s.

The PowR'Ball feeds very good but the actual performance may lack a little. I did a expansion test with wet media at 7 yrds. and when I recovered the bullet it had retained no weight at all. The brass jacket was recovered with no lead inside and a 3.5" penetration. The jacket itself had opened full and resembled some sort or throwing star. Ballistics gel (which I don't have) may result in a very differant test. Having seen this I resorted back to old reliable, the 200gr. +P Gold dot which also feed great in my gun.

Round nose bullets feed best, so the rounder the ogive on a hollowpoint, the more likely it is too feed....generally speaking.

Gold Dot 230 gr works fine in my gun. But then again, if it didn't, it would be a huge surprise!

That is the reason, I believe, that Remington 230 grain Golden Sabres feed so well. They have a bullet profile dang near identical to ball ammo.

Those rounds most closely approximating hardball profile should feed the best. That would include Golden Sabre, SXT, Silvertip, and Hydra-Shok. Gold Dots seem a bit too gaping, and XTPs are truncated cone in profile.

Not trying to be disagreeable with Rick on this, but the Federal Hydra Shok has been known not to be the best feeder and that's probably because it doesn't have a rounded profile. fwiw :)

FWIW, the round pictured is not the current production Hydrashok. The bullet, as produced now, has a rounded profile, rather than the truncated cone as in your picture.

That's a picture of an older HS bullet. The ones made for the last few years do have a rounded profile. I've never had problems feeding them in any gun that feeds other hollowpoints.

Good information on the updated HS, guys. :) I'll have to check them out. Has it really been over two years, sheesh time flies. Looks like it's about time for Federal to update their website, eh? That's where I got the HS photo from.
