Took my brother and both of our brand new SiGARMS Revolution STXs to the range today...his bone stock and mine with G-10 Double Diamond grip plates I had previous as my burled maple arrived with a crack in the left side grip plate (new set enroute thanks to Ray in SiG Customer Service :D )
Let's get this out of the way right now...it's a keeper...very nice and I am happy I bought it...
Went to the local range today...very last minute...had 300 total rounds of Speer Lawman 230GR TMJ...picked up two more boxes (another 100 rounds) of American 230GR Lead Free Ball...
My intention today was to fire as many rounds through it as I could given it was only a couple of hours until the range closes, this was all very last minute and my older brother is about an hour away from me...he arrived, we went, paid our dues and stepped up to the line.
This is the first time I have shot this pistol (both of us on these pistols) but I have to say, putting the first round in the bull right where I aimed at about 25 feet set the mood...big smile on my face...my brother seemed more interested in the accuracy and I had to keep reminding him...500 to break in...THEN we can carp about the bad and boast about the good.
First two mags, not a hitch...third magazine full and the second round failure to feed (it IS a brand new gun after all)...
After the first 50 rounds and no further problems, I noticed that my hands and the pistol are filthy from the Speer Lawman (Blue Box)...yuck...second mag into the second 50 and I have several failures to feed...this pistol is really dirty...a spritz with Breakfree...all we had at the time got it running but it is not encouraged to do anything like this (cleaning and whatnot) on this range and it is packed here with shooters today...
Several more failures to feed spring up but I attribute ALL of these to a dirty gun...the sling shot rack of the slide seems to get things going again.
About 210 rounds apiece and we are done...the SiG is REALLY dirty and I have some problems seating a magazine with it filled to 8 rounds...even more trouble now with 8 and trying to get that 9th in the pipe and then seating the mag near the end of our session...so much for that. I would have liked to get 500 rounds downrange but not today.
Conclusions:
I would say that this pistol is very nice...the sights appear to be spot on for me...my brothers were close for me but need to have point of aim lowered for him (they're adjustable)...I had absolutely zero failures to extract...the controls ran smooth, ambi-safety worked like it should...the front strap checkering was a bit sharp but my other 1911s didn't have any so, get used to it lightweight... :D ...the wavey slide serrations are sharp too but see previous answer...except for getting a few down my back or under the collar and the very slight mark I put on it placing the slide stop in when the oily hands and oily gun conspired to let it slip (not quite an idiot mark but I know it's ther... ) I think it is a very nice pistol with a nice trigger pull and more accurate than I can be...what's not to like...
I am unconcerned about the FTFs as this only started after the gun got dirty and could probably have used a bit more lubrication...but not as much as when I cleaned it...hope this one continues to get better with age and there is no reason to believe it won't.
YMMV,
Bill
