I just got a new Loaded Springfield Champion. I took it home and cleaned it, went to the range, and started shooting. I was shooting factory Winchester 230 gn stuff. It shot very nicely, and I was impressed with how tight the groups where. I was disappointed that the gun was shooting a little high. It was shooting a good 8" high @ 25 yds., maybe even a full foot high. I didn't measure. I called Springfield and they are sending me a rear sight. I hope that it is lower than the one I have. Has anyone else had a problem with there SA shooting high? If so, what did you do to correct it? I'm trying to avoid sending it back, but I will as a last resort. I think this gun will be a favorite of mine once I get the thing to shoot poa. btw I'm new to this forum, but not 1911's.

My Springfield Champion also shoots very high at 25 yards, maybe a foot or so. I think i will call Springfield and try to get another site for it also. The gun is a piece of art for the price and the reliability it has given me. Good shooting to everyone.

Got the new sight from SA the other day. I got it put on while I was having the trigger lightened to a crisp 4 lbs. Looks right now. It really looked odd with the other taller rear sight. I am still surprised that no one noticed the difference in heighth of the rear sight. I'm sure the new rear sight will solve the problem, but haven't been able to shoot the gun yet. We have a bit of a ice storm here.

My TRP had the rear sight work itself loose with shooting and I had to send it in. I asked them to also check the sights as I felt it shot 6 inches low but am not sure if its me or not. They sent it back with the order saying both front and rear sights had to be replaced. This told me that it was the sights and boy can I tell you the difference when i shoot it now. I shot as if I added 10 yrs experience after the sights were corrected. The gun shoots great now but I am still not a SA fan when a 1400 gun has to be sent in for stupid crap like this.
I love my baer and thats the way a gun should be looked over before being released. Of course the cost of some SA's are much less but now that I have a Baer I wish that 1400 was sunk into a TRS by Les Baer.
Dont get me wrong the TRP is great and gets shot way more than my Baer since I am comfortable with it as it was my first 1911. It is a great gun but the issues SA has leaves a bad taste in my mouth and if for comparable dollars I can get a more "semi custom" gun I will do so. On the other hand if one doesnt mind piddly crap like this then save the money and go SA, they do pay for all the repairs ect.

I shot it today, and it shot great. Then the rear sight came loose. I had the resident gun smith tighten it back up. I wonder if it will stay? He does good work so I'll say that it should stay. Has anyone else had any sights come loose on a Springfield? It really is a shame I'm having this kind of experience with Springfield. I really like the gun and it shoots well. No failures of any kind, and consistant tight groups. If I could just get the groups to stay where I'm aiming.

Did you read the above post?
This is the sort of quality control issues that SA has, and consequently the reason they didnt get my recent purchase of 2k on a new custom pistol. When people ask how good their FBI model 1911 is I ask them if they would spend 2k on a gun that supposedly is better than the millions of others they release with all these issues. The sad part is that the custom shop is the one that repaired our guns and is also the same shop to make the FBI models. Look they send it back still messed up.
In my opinion if they cant get it right on a 1400 dollar TRP why would I expect they would by dumping 2k on their "better" model. You should not have to spend more money, especially not that much, to get good out of the box quality. I dont see any people having problems with their Baer and when or if you do hear about it they are seldom. This SA crap has been the majority of every SA froum talk. Take a look over at the 1911forum.com at all the complaints people have.
Again I can not lie about how great my TRP has been since it went back for repair for sight issues. It shoots very nicely but there are tons of tool marks all over inside the gun and rough edges ect that should have had attention too. A similar priced Les Baer or wilson ect wouldnt look like my TRP, thats for sure.
Your options are to sell it or fix it right with your smith so your not with out it and keep it. I chose to keep mine as to not loose more money by selling it.
Good luck man and once its fixed you will begin to once again enjoy your gun.

Greetings all,
I also just purchased a hardly used Champion - blue steel. It was marked Compact .45 so I called SA and was told it was a Champion. Must be an older model as SA web site only shows a SS version. Anybody have any thoughts or comments before I go shooting this weekend?
Thanks & cheers,
Dave

Desertrat, I was wondering if the compact is the one with the barrel bushing. The Springfield Armory Champion does not have the barrel bushing but has the tapered coned barrel. I have one and like it much. I would clean it, (not totally disasemble it) just the slide , swab and check the bore, then lube it up good , grab a good quality magazine and some hardball and go for it. For the price i think that these guns run they are a good buy. Could have purchased a new Champion (4") the other nite for 291.00 plus tax out the door. The store had a 25% off everything in the store. Regular price was 388.00 plus tax. If i was purchasing a high end gun i would probably look to some of the others. Many people do not have the budget for the spendy ones and this gets us into the game without giving up and arm and a leg.
Good Shooting
