Can the tritium vials be replaced in old night sights or does the whole sight need to be replaced? If the vials can be replaced, who does this?
Thanks

Whose sights are they? The maker can replace the vials. You cannot purchase the vials direct.

Kruzr, they are on a 1990 S&W commercial version of the FBI 1076. These are the same sights as on the FBI guns, which are different than the normal ones S&W used. The sights do not say who made them. Got it out of the safe and noticed a distinct lack of glow! I would have sworn they were bright a couple of months ago.

Trijicon makes night sights for the 1076. I've never seen a 1076 except in pictures and it appears to have a Novak rear cut. I'd measure it to see if it's a Novak cut.

You can sometimes find them on Ebay, I did, used them on missing night sights on my M92 AK47.
They were about $25.00 each...............worth it for me on that gun.

Please keep in mind that the tritium inside those vials is a radioactive material. Even though the quantity is minuscule, it is still radioactive. So if you are concerned about this, you'd better return it to the manufacturer for proper disposal.

Tony, check with Tooltech Gunsight. They are the folks that do the warranty repairs and installs of tritium vials on plain steel sights for Trijicon. They should be able to hook you right up. Here's their contact info from Trijicon's website:
Tooltech Gunsight will be able to quote prices, options and turnaround time. Their phone number is 248-628-1811 or e-mail them at tgunsight@aol.com.

That would be about right. Tritium has a half life of 12.5 years. They would gradually start going darker about 2002 on a 1990 model, and then drop off noticeably in spurts after that.

Hi
Did the sights come on the pistol from S&W? If so I'd bet they will swap them out for you.

They are the original sights - same as on the FBI guns - I will have to check with S&W. Trijicon said they would replace them but I didn't get a price -yet. At least only the slide will have to be sent in. Just found out that Trijicon has an 88 acre secure training facility in my town - it is kept very quiet!

Hi
I would sure give them a phone call before they shut down for the Christmas party and see what they say. My bet is that they will swap them out for free.
Of course I've been wrong before ...

inserts them in your sights, email him & get a price. Here is the price on his web site for inserts. I presume three inserts here.
Tritium Night Sight inserts in existing sights $125.00
