Hiding Scratches on R-R 1911A1

I have a Remington-Rand 1911A1 (1943) that was purchased from a local gun shop, he in turn received it in a trade from a Sheriff's Department in Virginia. The only thing 'wrong' with the piece is that lightly and crudely someone has scratched the letters WCN on the right side of the slide rightbelow the ejection port, as if done with a nail or something. Is there anything short of re-parkerizing the slide, which I will not do, I can do to disguised this blemish?

Unfortunately, no. It's best to leave it as it is, since it's a part of the pistol's history. Lots of GI's who snuck their .45's home did things like scratch their name or initials on them. Remember a lot of these guys were not really gun enthusiasts, and didn't care about possible future collector's value either.

I would hide it under some oil or Breakfree CLP and live with it. The value has already been diminished, no need to further de-value it by trying to touch up the finish or refinish it.
