Can anyone tell me when COLT went from the roll marked die stamping to the
laser etched/engraved slides...?
Thanks!

I didn't know that they changed to laser rollmarking (a la Smith & Wesson). Do you have a picture you can share with us?

Hi
If they have changed across the board it must be very recent. My six month old GCT is roll marked.

I didn't know Colt had switched either. I imagine the forum wonders the source of the question.

Hi,
They may not have completely switched but:

They are sure using the etching on some new Colts.

Oppsssssssss,
You said "slide" markings. My example, of course, is on the frame.
On that same gun, the "Colt Custom" on the slide is roll marked.

Hey thanks!
I don't have a picture of it... but I was referring to a Mustang Pocketlite...
the serial number is "dotted" like yours.... and the COLT MUSTANG - I guess it's still roll-mark stamped, but the letters feel like they are raised.
I'll take some pics and post them...

Here's a photo of the "Mustang". It's a .380 Pocketlite, alloy frame with steel slide.
I think I'm confusing "laser engraving" with roll marks that are not polished prior to bluing. The slide markings on this Mustang feel raised and not like USGI m1911 Colt slides or the Commander slides.
It's raised and looks similiar to the new m1911-A1 re-issue stamping.
