The postal person brought this one home to my safe yesterday: A 99% 1977 LW Commander. Surprise - No takedown scratch under the tie wrap, just a few nicks under the slide stop. More pictures later and a high resolution one e-mailed to John, of course :D :D

Very nice. Might want to put new springs in it before you shoot it. Save the old ones of course.

Hi

That's a very nice pistol.

Don't let me near it if you want to keep it unscratched. :nono: ooops ...

Very nice Phil. What dark corner did you dig that one out of? Congrats on a great find.

Thanks, all. +1 on the springs. Don't know if I'll shoot it or not - maybe a bit just to check it out.

I have saved searches on both GunsAmerica and GunBroker with e-mail notification. I got an e-mail on this one and jumped on it immediately.

Nice pick up. The more you guys show those commanders the more I want one.

This is my first Lightweight model - a .45, by the way. I took it out of the safe again a few minutes ago just to feel how light it is and how well it seems to fit my hand. I have a current production Combat Commander in stainless and I thought that that one felt good - but this Ser 70 LW is in a different class altogether

Amazing how "modern" it looks with the sights, beavertail, MSH, hammer, trigger, and grips. It could be the latest from Nighthawk or somebody, and yet it's 30 years old. A timless classic - beautiful gun, Steve.

I didn't alter the frame in anyway......don't like to mess wth alloy.

The grip safety is Wilsons.......but I did dovetail in the front sight on the slide. But then mine didn't start out as nice as yours.

I've also switched to a Yost Retro sight since this pic was taken.

From the picture you posted, I figured everything could be put back as original except for the front sight, and that's certainly no big deal. :)
