I am just starting to get educated on the Colt product line.
Where does the Gold Cup fall in the Colt line up of 1911 offerings?

The Gold Cup is their top of the line normal production pistol.

Thanks guys for the posts.
Some of the Gold Cups show just "Gold Cup" some show "Gold Cup Trophy" and some are discribed as "Gold Cup N M Trophy"
Is this due to when the were made or are there distinctions for some quality reason?
Sorry to sound ignorant just trying to learn!

Hello Longslide,
You don't sound ignorant at all, we all learn from this forum; (and believe me there's lot to learn on Colts) and any questions that you could come up, there will always be someone with an answer.
As for your question about GC, I prefer to let Hunter answer that, so he might get you hooked on Colts. :)

There are 3 common versions of the Colt Gold Cup rollmark (not counting Series 70 or 80)
First was the National Match, then the Gold Cup National Match, and now the Gold Cup Trophy (which are different pistols as well). Check this link for a great description.

If you are looking into getting a Colt Gold Cup Trophy well you would be doing yourself a huge favor but I am partial.
I also see Trophys listed as National Match Trophys and all sorts of different descriptions but that is an error in the description.
There are differences in the GCT and GCNM so no NMT
