Since catching the 1911 madness, I decided that nothing will do until I find a Combat Commander (XSE preferred) for CCW, develop a meaningful relationship with it, and proudly post it here. However, here in north Texas, examples of that model seem to be few and far between or cost a proverbial arm and a leg. I was told that I should be able to purchase one for around $800 or a few bucks less for NIB and am ready to cough it up, but I can't seem to find any...Yes, I am ready to "pony" up....I saw a few 38 Supers at recent gun shows, but I want .45 ACP.

Any help with resources or referrals is greatly appreciated. What about a used Combat Commander? This is frustrating, and the money is burning a hole in my pocket.

Thanks in advance!!

If you look at Colts under $1000 on www.gunsamerica.com and use Commander as the search word, pretty much everything that comes up will likely be an XSE. If you have a gun dealer in your town with whom you like to do business, just tell him to pick up the phone and call his distributor.

There were a few at the Mesquite Big Town show a couple of weeks ago in .45 ACP from at least three different vendors. There's another show coming up October 21st, by the way, and the same vendors will be there. Prices were pretty reasonable, too.

AFFF_667,
They (the Colts that you are interested in) are out there. I live south of Fort Worth, and my gun shop guy can get just about anything that I want, in the way of a currently produced Colt. Don't get discouraged, and take Hawkmoon's advice.

AFFF_667,

Fwiw, most of what I've seen in the last few months have been LW Commanders, but I did see a Combat XSE at the last gunshow I hit. Hang in there, be patient and you'll find one!

AFFF 667,

I would seriously consider the LW XSE Commander model number 4860XSE.

I have both that model and the "standard" stainless Commander model O4091U all stainless model, and of the two, I carry ONLY the LW XSE because the weight is noticeably lighter.

If I could only have one, it would be the XSE LW model specifically because it is a better carry weapon for it's weight.

After checking Buds, you can try AJC sports and Ozark Guns, they have them also. If you don't mind just seeing a picture with a good price.

+1 on the guns america advice, when I bought my XSE LtWt they had them cheaper than Buds ( which is rare). Just do a search and you should get a list of all the sellers.

Thanks in advance!!AJC Sport Shop down in Clute, TX lists the 04012XSE. They have an toll-free number - I just called and they have at least one in stock for $785 brand new. I bought a GCT Trophy from them and was pleased with their service.

www.galleryofguns.com usually has several in stock, I have ordered a few handguns from them over the years and they are good to deal with.

Oops. Looks like Bud's got AJC beat - if they have it in stock......

If you can, get a new one from a reputable dealer rather than off the auction sites. I've bought 8 Colts recently and a dealer is less stress. :D

the dealer I bought mine through GunsAmerica.com was about 745.00, I paid just under 800.00 including shipping and transfer fees. It was out of Michigan and he said he had access to a lot of XSE LtWt Commanders. It was "Wolverine Shooting Sports" I dealt with a Justin Mundy. I just found the packing slip.

Bud's website only has the pistols that are in stock on the website. If there is a picture, the gun is in stock.

I go there almost daily, always looking for another 38 super. The problem is that I "need" a certain one, so.....it might take a while.

You can make requests by email there also. I recently asked if they would get any Gunsite Pistols in and they sent me an email back saying that they had one 98% for a good price. I sent the check this morning, after I fondle it and test it at the range, I will give it to one of my sons, provided I can pry it loose from my crusty old paw after touching it.
