Well, I'd like to introduce myself to everyone in the Colt section and m1911.org.

I've been reading these forums for quite some time(recently registered) and have
been researching a lot in the history, heritage, and culture behind the 1911.
It has been a very rewarding journey so far in learning about the 1911. I do
hope to continue so with the great help of everyone else.

This past sunday I visited a gun-show and purchased a Colt MkIV Series 80 Officer's ACP in stainless steel.
I am extremely pleased with it as i've always wanted a Colt.

Without further ado, here is the goodies(no I didn't forget to post pictures of my new weapon :D )

Oh my, another newbie who will soon be sucked in so completely that he will never escape. As harleydog says, it's an addiction at least as strong as anything they sell down on the street...

Congratulations on the pistol. Now, it needs a blued brother to go along with it so it isn't lonely in the safe between outings...

Those new High Standards look fun. (anyone read the review vs a springfield in one of the gun mags?)

I've been informed about this review. It seems it's full of inaccuracies. These reporters can't even report the gun's name right "Springfield GI Mil-spec". Where is this guy living? In a cave? Mil-spec and GI are two different models. No one has told that to him? Geeeezzz

Mil-spec and GI are two different models.

Well there is some truth to it John, sort of. When I bought mine it was called the WW2 mil-spec. It came the same as the GI that was released about a year give or take after I bought mine. The only difference that I can see is that the WW2 mil-spec had black plastic grips, and the GI had brown wood grips with GI engraved in them.
Then there was the Mil-spec with the higher sights etc.

So referring to the article, you are probably correct, but so you know there are some out there with SA's that are neither the GI or the Mil-spec. If I had kept the box, I would take a pic of it, but I didn't. It was a OD green cardboard box. On the front of it in black lettering was WWII Mil-Spec.

I remember those Brian, but this is supposed to be a current review, these old pistols are not in production any more.

Very nice find....Officers in that condition are increasing in price QUICKLY. That there would be a candidate for safe queen collector status.........(sorry, I like safe queens/ collectors)......

There was the Mil-Spec WWII with the cruddy brown plastic stocks in between the black plastic and the wood stocks.

As always, my friend Dan is totally correct. I had one of those.

Very nice pistol, thesb! Thank you for the nice photos. :)

Never saw that one OD*, John I figured you were talking about the current specs, but wasn't sure how old the article was.

Thank you again everyone for the warm welcome.

Been doing some examining, I've heard of the problems associated with the recoil spring plug.

Does this look like its about time to change it?

The previous owner(a LEO, not that it matters) converted it to a single spring setup as well.

John, I didn't read too much into their comparison versus the SA. It was more how much proverbial *Bang*
for your buck you get out of the box, and what a nice building platform you get.

Thanks again everyone!
Jared

Oh indeed, the High Standard, the SA GI or Mil-spec and the RIAs are some of the most cost-effective, nice pistols, in the market.

As for replacing the recoil spring plug, you can do it, I guess. But the replacement will either need to be of the same type or you need to machine the rear of the spring tunnel on the slide, to accept a reverse plug.
