Does anyone know what type of 1911 Al Pacino uses in the movie Heat. It looks like a Colt officer's model but I am not sure.

Either a Commander/Combat Commander, or a clone of same.

Not positive but it looks like an Officers ACP. Barrel looks too short to be a Commander.

Hi
Any chance of getting a still picture with the pistol in it?

I think that 1911Tuner is right on this one, but I'll have to double check my DVD to verify.
Either a Commander/Combat Commander

I have to disagree with Tuner on this one. According to Madogre's website it was a custom Officers ACP done up by Terry Tussey for the movie. It looked like an Officer's model to me too.

Garrett,
Have to agree with you. If you "stop action" the scene in the elevator when Pacino "pinch checks" the pistol, you can get a very good image of the OACP.

Well...it just goes to show. The ol' eyes just ain't what they used ta be. I coulda swore it was a Commander... :D
Pacino must have little-bitty hands.

You could still be right Johnny, there are a few scenes it looks like a Commander to me too. Yep, Al is a little guy, 5' 6".

How many movies do they switch guns (some in the middle of scenes) and figure folks just won't notice?

They may have used both. Rigging up a semi-auto to shoot blanks is a big deal. It's quite a complicated process where they remove the locking lugs, go to straight blowback and have to restrict the barrel the proper amount to get the pressure to make it all work. They may not have wanted to do a second Officers blank gun to match the first and just substituted a Commander when needed. 44 Man

Yeah...LOL...We/They seem to have enough trouble gettin' the chopped shorties to work with live ammo, much less with blanks.

He has a variety of interests click weapons to check out the guns section. To read about the weapons in various movies scroll down the left side. Near the bottom you will see some thumbnails of various DVD covers. Click the movie you are interested in.
Tuner, the gun pictured on MadOgre's website is a Tussey Custom Carry Comp

That may explain the confusion on the length.

I've heard that on most movies where they use guns, they have several back-up guns available in case there's a problem with one. Production time is so expensive that it's cheap insurance. It's entirely possible that different scenes might have different guns.

I found a colt officers model with the parkerized finish, an M1991A1 and bought it. Now I am going to get a set of ivory polymer grips and have an approximate replica of the pistol that Vincent Hanna carried! I'll post some pics as soon as I can.

When I freeze-frame the DVD player it looks like an Officer model with a “short” comp attached
