I thought my 1975-vintage $350 Combat Commander was a pretty great deal, but as I've been reading about some of the other good deals here and on 1911forum, I'm beginning to think I should have tried to get him to take less. What has been your best Colt deal?
Here's a picture of my new-to-me Commander and also(sorry) my $400 Kahr/AO Commander. It's my favorite gun that I own.

Beautiful Colt, I think you did just fine with those Colts. My best deal was I traded my father straight up a Springfield 1911 for a 1918 Colt 1911. He wanted a carry gun that he was not scared to carry in case something was to happen to the pistol. She now lives comfortable in my safe and is brought out on special occasions. Nothing real fancy or all original but never the less I love the old Colt and it was my dad's carry gun for a good number of years.

My best deal wasn't a 1911, it was a Colt Trooper with Safariland Border Patrol holster, Safariland leather Speed Loader Case and 2 HKS speed loaders for $200 in about 1980. It was my first pistol and first Colt. It took me until 2006 to buy another Colt. But I bought 8 of them this year :D 3 Colt Pythons and 5 Colt 1911's.

Hi
Well as much as I talk about the fun with breaking it in you might doubt it, but here it is:
Colt Series 70 Gold Cup - NIB at full retail price in 1979 - probably $500 (?). I wish I had the exact price ...

It was a great deal. I was looking at used commanders recently. They wanted 600-700 for a used commander. I bought a new 1991 for 679 at Buds. :)

Of the Colts I currently own, the best deal was probably the 1934 commercial I got for $400.00 this year (it had been refinished, but still not a bad deal). If that one is disqualified, I'd have to say my best deal was the blued 1991A1 I also got for $400.00 last year. Both are good guns, and perform almost identically- how's that for multi-generational quality control?

I bought a Colt Gold Cup in 1977 or 78 for $285.00. It was a pistol that was bought new from McBrides in Austin and then about a week later the fella decided he wanted a nice shotgun and traded it back in on the shotgun. He had never even shot the Colt, so I considered it a new pistol. I still have it today. I have went thru many pistols over the years, but "Goldie" will be with me untill I check out. :D
