I am a little confused and I hope one of you can clear this up for me.
Can any of you that own the XSE Stainless Government model tell me if it is a 70 Series or an 80? This is information I need to help me chose my next 1911 purchase. Thanks in advance for all help. :confused:

So you have to be careful not to depress the grip safety while stripping and cleaning, Right? Could you explain why this is with the 80 series?

Depressing the grip safety will not matter with the Series 80, you may be thinking of the Swartz system. The Series 80 parts are actuated by the trigger as it is depressed.

So the system on the Colts is different then the system used by Kimber and S&W?

It is today. Colt discontinued the Swartz system in the '40s. Check out this link 1911Tuner started on the Series 80 parts.

Yes. They both perform the same function, which is to block the firing pin. However, they are activated differently.

You have 2 feet also, but they can't hold a Colt, but you can get 2 more, just so your feet don't feel left out. After that, you might have some teeth that need Colt's, of course they can't hold them, but they will feel left out if they don't have one also. See, it never ends. :cool: :cool:

Hey KY, I obviously missed a post or two from you. What happened with your Kimber? I thought you were going with the S&W after selling the Kimber. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see you going with the Colt. I have Smith's and Kimbers also, but the one that goes out the door with me each day to work is a Colt.
Just asking. I think you will however, really enjoy owning a Colt or two.
Just remember that Hunter started out with one Colt also. Now look at him, he has more Colt's than Colt.

1911 Shooter;
I traded my Kimber for a Stainless 44 Mag(Insanity I Guess) I was very Strongly considering the S&W but, I traded another gun for a DW Pointman Minor PM2, the PM2 is a 70 series and the S&Ws use the Swartz safety system so I have decided I want to go with a Colt for two reasons. They have a different system and they made the original. I think the Kimber is a good gun, I feel the S&W is a better one but, the Colt is the original and I have always wanted one. I still prefer the S&W to the Kimber and I do prefer their revolvers to anything else and I am looking to replace a cheap revolver with a S&W but, I have decided to go with the Colt for my 1911. I have been reading a lot about them and I think that will be the 1911 for me. And since my funds for gun buying are some what limited by the birth of and needs of our new daughter I don't think I'll get into the collecting like Hunter I'll probably just get one or two it depends how the finances go.

Hard to beat a XSE to me this is the gun that Springfield wishes there Loaded model could be. And I also think it is superior to most of what Kimber offers also. I don't have a commander model of the xse, but I do have a SS Government and it has been excellent. Everything that Hunter and the rest of the guys have said is true. The xse is a winner. Maybe early next year I will have to break down and get a XSE commander.... ;)

Although I decided to get a couple of Series 70 re-issue pistols for my full-size 1911 needs, for concealed carry I opted for the LW XSE Commander model. It's a DANDY!

KY RIMROD, as swampertwo alluded to, either one, or both, is a great idea! :D

I think Hunter says it's a good choice because it leaves the Gold Cups for him!!
LOL! Seriously, I think you'll like the XSE, I have the LTWT Commander like Rio Vista Slim. If you want the gun to carry, I would highly recommend it! So far, 4 boxes of shells, no failures, and it's as accurate as my Government model to boot.
