Hey,

Just wondering if anyboby know if Colt still produces parts for the 70 Series Gold Cup. I want to restore the one I got when I worked with a local PD. YES, my old department let guys carry the Gold Cup and other 1911 on duty.

Anyways, I need a Spur hammer, grip safety, and flat mainspring housing ( Is it checkered, or serrated??) for the 70 series GC. Can I buys these off of Colt without sending my pistol to them, I'm going to have our police armorer install them r is there a manufactors that make close copies???

Any help out there???

Below is a picture of the Gold Cup I bought in 1977. It was made by Colt in 1976. I have put about 4K rounds through it and when the roll pin in the rear sight broke (at about 3K rounds), I replaced it with a Colt part. I got it from Brownells, so that might be a place to start. Their toll free number is 800-741-0015 and if they don't have what you want then maybe they can guide you to another place.

You can try Colt directly at 1 800 962 Colt. Also another Colt man is Bill Bailey in Claremont N.C. at (828) 459-7175. Pittsburgh Handgun Headquarters in another at (412) 766-6100. I did some business with them a few years ago and at that time they had right many original Colt parts.

The mainspring housing is serrated. I believe any Series 70 hammer and grip safety will be correct. The hammer would be blued but 'in the white' on the sides like Dakota's. It would have come with a light recoil spring since it was set up for light target loads. You might want to put a spring set in it depending on how you plan to use it.

I believe the Gold Cup hammer is a little different than a standard Series 70 hammer. I agree that if you go back with the original mainspring and sear spring weights and all factory Gold Cup parts be sure you have the sear depressor leg and sear depressor leg spring in place. With the heaver steel trigger and light pull they will prevent sear bounce and the hammer following the slide home during slide cycle.

The pin for the strut is in a different location on the Gold Cup hammers.... The gripsafety is the same as a standard model.... I have an extra MSH and grip safety that came from one of mine if you are interested.... If I look, I might even be able to come up with a hammer too.....

Hi

If you are trying to restore the pistol then I would definitely start with a phone call to Colt. They may not be the low price on the block, but the parts probably have the best chance of being the right ones. That saves the cost of buying a couple rounds of parts ...
