Hi all,
Got a GI model in stainless and have had no issues with it at all with about 500 round of factory ball and about 200 rounds of my target reloads. No issues except.... those miserable GI sights. My gun is very accurate but could be more so I'm sure with better sights. Anyone know of decent "drop in " replacements for that gun? Anyone replaced theirs yet? I don't need anything fancy just somethine a little more pronounced than the factory sights that it came with. Can I get the 1911-A1 sights from Springfield, anyone know? Any help much appreciated-

Thanks,
Scott

I checked the Springfield Armory website and it appears the only one avaliable on-line is the Springfield Target adjustable sight that requires a Novak cut. Some of their other models have the Novak sights so it may be possible to get them from Springfield but you would still need the cut for the front sight. I'm not sure if the Novak rear sight fits the GI cut, so that may need to be recut too.

You might check with a local gunsmith to see what options are available at a reasonable price. Good luck.

Drop-in Novak rear sight, interesting concept. A base is inserted in the existing dovetail and then a Novak look-alike sight is screwed on that base. I don't have any ideas what you will do with the front one though.

Midway (www.midwayusa.com) lists a Chip McCormick 1911 sight that is apparently a drop in rear unit that uses the standard dovetail. Part # is 107131. You can read some general specifications and two customer reviews for this part. One reviewer didn't indicate which model he had; the second had a Mil-Spec which apparently comes with different sights than the GI version.

There are several other units by Heinie that replace both sights but machining of the slide is required. Part #'s below.
