I bought a Ed brown extended mag catch for my Colt Govt. 1911. Now when I try to put in a mag it goes in, but if I try release a full mag or half full mag. The mag button will not go in, unless I push up on the magazine, then it will release the magazine.
Anyone know how I can fix this problem. I would like to keep the extended mag. catch on the gun.

I want to add that it seems the orginal Colt mags work fine and drop free.
The above is happening when I use the Chip McCormick power mags 8 rnd.
Anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks, 1911 newbie

Does it still happen when the mags are empty?

One way or the other, it sounds like the slots for the mag catch on the mags may be cut a tad low, forcing the mag up into the gun a bit.

When there's rounds in the mag, and the slide is closed, it makes it harder to release the mag, as the rounds are being forced down into the mag under more pressure, which in turn makes it harder to release the mag.......clear as mudd?

Either that or the mag catch surface, on the top, where it engages the magazine slot is a bit rough. Try polishing that flat surface a little.

I have some metal polish, I'll try it.
