Guys,
I was reading the "Books to get" thread, and didn't want to hijack it, so I started a new thread. I am interested in building my own 1911 someday, and am in the research/learning phase. I already own Jerry K.'s Vol 1 & 2, as well as Pat Sweeny's book.
How good are the AGI Videos? Looking at the titles, I am thinking Vol 1&2 are what I want. Are they any good? Is there any reason to get the Armorer's guide? (I am thinking hard about getting the Ed Brown DVD.) Any you recommend over others or over these?
Thanks in advance,
Herk

The AGI videos come well recommended. I learned something just by watching the free preview of one of the videos on the website. I think they have it bundled in a 3 DVD set that covers everything now.
The Ed Brown bench reference CD is also a good one.
Another recommended DVD set is the Wilson Combat series.

Hi
All of the DVD's have a certain amount of "fluff" on them. If you go for the AGI's on a variety of pistols you will see the same simple green spray down cleaning done again and again.
My only real gripe with them is that often they spend a lot of time going through the simple stuff very slowly and in great detail. When you get to something complicated they go fast and skip stuff.
I would get at least one set. It's very useful to see at least some of this stuff.

I have AGIs' video"Building the ultimate 1911 Course"
Volume 1. It comes with a hefty price tag,and as paguns stated they cover the basics in detail. It does cover lowering the rails and tightening the slide well. It shows installing a hard fit and drop in barrel also. I think they leave some stuff out and cover it on other videos. During the fitting of the barrel I was interested in hand fitting the barrel lugs. When the video gets to that point all of a sudden the barrel has magic marker all over the lug area but not a word on fitting the lugs. Might be in a later video. There are alot of nice tips and it is nice to see how a gunsmith handles a pistol. He is not shy when it comes to the Fordham motor(Dremel). He works on a Springfield
MilSpec. and does alot of mods.
All in all I would rate the video as a good one.It is 3 or 4 hours long and covers alot. But there are gaps. I would rat it at about a 7 or 8 out of 10. I wasn't disappointed in the money spent.
