A ventriloquist was performing at the 1911 Lounge. He kept telling jokes about how dumb Glock shooters were until one Glockster in the audience couldn't take it any more.
"Hey! Lay off the Glock jokes," he yelled. " Glock shooters are just as smart as 1911 shooters."
"Gee whiz," answered the ventriloquist, "I'm just trying to entertain the crowd."
"I'm not talking to you," replied the Glock shooter. "I'm talking to that funny looking guy on your lap."

So this first guy says to the second guy at the gun store, "I just heard the funniest joke about Glock owners."

And the second guy, outraged, says, "Sir, I am a Glock owner."

So the first guy offers, "I tell it to you slowly then."

Where to start? If you like them go ahead, doesn't mean we aren't going to mock them

The thing is that many of us are here on this board because we have a special liking for the aesthetics of old fashioned machined steel and real wood. And we're attracted to the 1911 because it is a beautifully made device, that is highly functional, with excellent ergonmetrics and fine aesthetics.

Most of us will admit that Glocks and other modern handguns can serve a purpose. They may be highly functional and, in effect, excellent appliances. The 1911 is simply, to our way of thinking, something more than an appliance; and we like that.

So we sometimes poke fun at Glocks in particular because (1) they were the pretty much the first of the successful polymer framed pistols; (2) they have been so successful; and (3) they're readily recognized.

I suspect that over on some Glock forum, they are telling jokes and poking fun at us Neanderthal fossils who have this strange affinity for the 1911 and pay enormous amounts of money and actually carry around an obviously obsolete design.

If you like your Glocks, that's great. We mean no disrespect. This is just intended to be some good natured ribbing. If you'd like to needle us strange folk who can't seem to fully get with the Modern Handgun agenda -- that's fine too.

At the end of the day, we're all shooters, and we all need to stick together. That doesn't mean we can't josh each other now and again.

You've understood almost everything I meant with this post.
Yes, we're all shooters who should be able to kid around and tease each other within our own group. We're like a family. We can rake each other over the coals and air our prejudices because, in the end, we're all in this together.
I love my 1911A1, but it's a S&W .38 that's always in my pants pocket.

The only other thing, that seems to have been missed, is that the part of the Glock shooter was played by a blonde in the original joke. Let's not start with complaints about blonde jokes :nono: , now, or I'll have to talk about the shooter who is as old as me and spent twenty minutes looking for his pistol and finally found it in his holster!

I apologize if anyone is offended; no offense is meant.

Keep smiling,
Doug

im not mad in a ranting lunatic way, just curious really, and yes those are good points, to each their own... as for me, i wanted a peice of history (i got it). though the glock always felt better (and looked) to me... again, to each their own.. and yes.. we do poke fun at 1911's ;-)

I'm an equal opportunity affliction abuser (pistolitis). I prefer to have one of each.... and then some. I have a particular affinity for 1911's, but, have a goodly quantity of Glocks, Sigs, S&W's, Rugers, etc. I shall continue to indulge my affliction until satiated (probably won't happen :nono: ). I enjoy the polite bantering between 1911 and Glock aficionados.
