you can find a new COLT for less than $700; i sell for less than $700;

who is selling $200 1911 style guns ?

The Smiths, Springfields I have bought wholesale are all close to the same price as the Colts i sell; Kimber is more expensive; Para i dont know about -- but think are more also;

springfield has models that cost less -- but they wernt the models i bought from springfield.

I wounder is there any "BIG" different in quality in this type of gunsYes it's a known fact that springfield, kimber and the other manufactuers use sometimes questionable cheaper cast and MiM parts. Why this big difference in price to colt? How is the quality..Plz UlfmanBecause Colt can only claim to be the original standard in which everyone else imitates, But no one duplicates. and the fact is Colt is know to use better quality parts than the other manufactuers.... :)

Hi Emiddio
When I check the prices on Colt ,it always turn out to be around 900-1000 us dollar compare to Auto Ordinance 550 usd, springfield 540 usd.
Maybe the real question is .Is there so big different between them in quality
that you have to buy a colt for 1000usd??

Dont take it wrong "I love colt"

Springfield certainly makes a less expensive model (the GI or the Mil-Spec), and they are fine pistols, but they are not of the same quality as the Colt.
As for the others, if you are comparing pistols of similar quality, they are generally a bit more expensive than Colts. Yes, they are quality made pistols. And if you are looking for some special things, then another model may be the most cost effective.
To me, Colt has high quality, and a moderately high cost. Add to that the heritage of the Colt and there is no contest. I am not going to pay for heritage, but (again, to me) that comes free with Colt (So it is the icing on the cake to seals the deal).

You get what you pay for in most cases, the reason Colts are a little more is one example.

All you have to do is look.

How about a Colt Government Blue Brand New for $636.26 ?

Or an all stainless Colt Commander for $679.28 ?

I think it's a no-brainer, and all my 1911's are Colts bought brand new at prices near those.

If I got the flag right you are in Sweden. If not sorry. Anyway, outside of the USA look for Norinco. Guns made in the Peoples Republic of China, by the people there who will never get to touch them unless they make them. O.K., if they are in the military, or high level party members maybe. Anyway, they do make a 1911 that is cheap.

Hi

A lot of the pistol prices in Europe seem to be related to importers. The mark up on some brands is enormous. On other brands it's not to bad.

Here in the US there is maybe a 20% price difference between Colt and some of the other brands you mention. You could debate what an "equivalent" model is and change that ratio a bit.

Missed the main part. Colts are probably more expensive because people like me pay the prices they ask for them. I am playing with a Taurus PT1911 as I write. When you shoot everything else then why you pay more for Colt is obvious. Until then call it market position or something like that.

I don't know either, but I took delivery last month of the brand spanking new model 4091U Commander (all stainless "standard" Commander) at that price ($679) and they're still showing to have more in stock.
The only additional cost was the $35 transfer fee to my local dealer FFL.

Ironically, the same dealer that did the transfer for me listed the same pistol for about $140 more. So in the end, and even with the transfer fee, I saved over $100 which is a chunk of pocket change.

Maybe Bud's is sort of a "Walmart" except that they specialize in guns?

Bud's moves a whole bunch of products from their internet site.

Hi

Which 1911 repo did you get?

If it's the WWI version you will be *very* happy with it. I spent six months searching for one over here and picked it up early this month. It was worth the wait.

Ulfman,

Sounds like you made your mind up already but you still might find this thread interesting.

http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=11010

I had made my mind up to get a a Colt before reading it, but it reassured me that I made a good decision.

Now, if I can just manage to save the pennies... ;)

Hi

You may find out that it's easier to get an importer to bring in a WWI repo than you might think. Often they are able to get their hands on custom stuff pretty easily.

wondering -- if those prices are just internet prices ? -- maybe in-store prices are higher ? -- then could sell for cost on internet as a way to build business.

???

Hi

I have seen dealers pretty much sell at cost over the internet. Prices in the store are at least 20% higher. The idea seems to be you get the volume / master dealer / bulk price from the manufacturer by handling a certain number of guns per day / month / quarter / year.

Basically they are cutting out the distributor. I have seen a number of guys go broke with this kind of deal over the years. You tie way to much money up doing this sort of thing.
