Thinking of getting a 9mm 1911 built on a Caspian frame. Thoughts? Good calibre? Pros and Cons?

I love the 9mm on a 1911 platform. It's very easy to shoot quickly due to the lack of recoil and the 9mm has come a long way lately. Also, ammo (at least in US) is very cheap. Go for it. I am sure you'll love it. Just make sure that whoever builds it knows his way well around the 1911. The fact that the barrel bore sits a little higher than in a .45ACP pistol, makes the feeding a bit tricky, but not undoable for sure.

The question I would ask is what are you going to use it for? If its for range use the 9mm would be a great choice. If you are going to use it for personal defense, I still like to .45. From experiences I am aware of, the 9mm with select ammo would be a minimum use personal defense gun.

Hi
It should make a great range gun. Easy to shoot and ammo that's cheap. What could be better .... single action, good grip angle, great sights, lots of grip choices, good balance ....

You'll like the 9mm, I'm sure! I definitely enjoy shooting my little 9mm Combat Commander at the range...as well as my Browning Hi-Powers in 9mm. But I prefer the .45 for carry and protection. It's nice to have a variety, though. If I could only have one, I'd probably go with the .45 for both the range and defense.

9mm Combat Commander! 9mm Combat Commander! 9mm Combat Commander!
Booohooooooooo, I want one!!!!!!!!
I have seen one only here, some years ago in a gun shop, used, parkerized and I passed. Back then I could have as many pistols as I liked! Now I am stuck with the stupid limit of two only!
I WANT ONE!!!!!

Hi
It amazes me that 9 mm 1911's aren't more common in the market place. We all have gone nuts over the super nines (JMB's fault as well - High Power).

I already have a Springfield Mil-spec in .45 and was looking for something less expensive and different to shoot.
Hoping to get one made by Armco this winter.

Indeed the 9mm 1911 is about half the cost to shoot compared to the 45. You might want to consider going with the hi-cap Caspian frame or even into an STI frame where you load a ton of ammo each mag and have a blast punch 20 to 30 rounds down range before needing to swap mags. (STI has some really huge capacities in their 9mm config 170mm and 140mm mags)

I am in Canada and am limited to ten rounds...besides I have small hands and prefer the single stack.
