Im lookin to get a officer frame short barreled 1911. Should I go with an Officers or the Gunsite CCO? Im leaning toward the CCO because it has a longer barrel and I hear those are more reliable. It'll be a carry or backup piece.

I would say the CCO, but an Officers is also such an attractive pistol too. Get the CCO first, then save for the Officers. Just make sure it is 3.5" not the smallish 3"ers.

I have a lightweight officers that I purchased in 1987. I admit I had to send it to Wilson's to get it running right but it literally has many 1000's of rounds through it. I still carry it every day and have been either on or off duty since I purchased it. All the rounds through it are full charge ball or duty rounds with a good number of +P. I also have a defender and a CCO with much fewer rounds through them but they also work as designed.

I had this same question a while back. From what I read, everyone recommended the CCO. The slide is the easy part to conceal since it goes down your pant leg so the Commander will not be any more difficult to conceal than the Officer length. Everyone seemed to appreciate the additional slide length for reliability and accuracy as well.
I went with the Gunsite CCO and absolutely love it. Beautiful gun. I personally like the short trigger which helps my smaller hands get a nice grip on the gun. No FTF/FTE. Only problem I had was that the slide would not lock back when one of the factory mags was used. A Wilson Combat mag solved that problem and added an extra round for me. I purchased some VZ grips for it but have not put them on yet because I can't get the OEM bushings out without tearing them up. I am going to send it to a gunsmith to get them out. Enjoy your search for your new gun.

I own a couple of OACP and I have had nothing but 100% reliability from mine. The CCO is nice, But for my carry tastes I perfer the OACP or a Defender....Larry

I'd go with the CCO. For some reason the OACP doesn't work for me. I used to have 2 but occassionally malfunctions. I don't trust the OACPs and Defenders.

I have a friend, a former gunsmith, who has a couple of 1911s, and has owned others over the years. He has a Colt Mark IV Officers that is 100% reliable with everything. He says it's the most reliable 1911 he's ever owned. I shot it, fell in love with it, and went out and bought an M1991A1 Compact (couldn't afford a Mark IV in stainless). Other than doing a very mild trigger job, I've done nothing to the 1991 and it's been reliable, too.
The point about the CCO being just as easy to conceal is true only if you carry IWB. Not everyone does. That extra 3/4" can mean the difference between you muzzle showing or not showing when carrying OWB.

Just received a Gunsite CCO last week. It Is GREAT!! I have been out with it twice and it hass been flawless. My brother-in-law has an Officers model, and he says it is a nice piece, but kicks a little. My CCO came with what I think is a "Coated" slide. It doesn't mention that at the Colt website. It looks and feels like my TRS that has the Baer Coating. I just wish it had come with white 3-dot sights. :D
