I was wondering if anybody knows what the difference in diameter should be between barrel and bushing? Better yet could anybody tell me where to get full prints (mil-spec) of the original or or latest revision of the 1911. This site has been invaluable as a learning/referance tool thanks everybody for making that a reality. The suns not yellow its chicken!

To get good consistent accuracy, set the bushing at .001" from the barrel to the bushing, and another .001" from the bushing to the slide.

So is that to say that if the outside diameter of my barrel is .580 I want the inside diameter of the bushing to be .581? That seems awfully close but I am asking because I dont know. Youve got to sit near the techer if you want to learn anything.

I'm thinking a wee tad of taper might help the barrel fall far enough to have the lugs clear.

If you haven't bought the new bushing yet, measure the slide and muzzle and then call EGW and get an angle-bored bushing to your specs....yes, .001 clearance inside and out is a nice fit...you'll need a wrench however to remove it, but the accuracy will improve.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with your lenght mesures, is " mean inch?
I have to calculate this in mm or microns.
Thanks,

One inch = 25.4mm

If the bushing is fit properly to the slide, even a .001" clearance won't require a wrench.
Measure the outside of the barrel right at the muzzle. Call EGW with your measurment, and request a thick flange bushing with the bevel carry, and the angle bore treatment. It will be a bit oversize to the slide.
Chech it in a drill press (you'll have to make a manrel to hold it) and smooth it down with some emory cloth until it goes in the slide without having to use a wrench.

Stephane gbw is correct if I am talking about .581 of an inch you multiply that by 25.4 and get 14.7574mm divide that by 25.4 and you are back to .581 of an inch. God bless the english system. Thanks for the replies folks.

God bess the english system?.. I get lost in it!
I prefer mine!
But anyway, if we goes to the same accuracy, sound good, thank you!

Yeah both systems work great its always best to just convert nubers to the system of familiarity.
