I have an older Defender and A concealed carry officers. Both of the pistols have the (funky)factory original rear sight with a dovetailed front. I have been unable to find an aftermarket night sight that will replace these. I could send pics tonight to describe if needed. Has anyone dealt with this before? I kinow a smith could fill the cuts and cut a new dovetail but not my first choice if possible. thanks.

I don't know what you mean by "funky" but if you are referring to the fake Novak style sights you may have a problem, they are cut different than just about any other sight. Although I hear there is a Trijicon number that will fit. I suggest you call Trijicon and inquire. If you are referring to the older sytle Colt sight they have used for years there are some night sights that fit the standard dovetail without any cutting, I have one on a Series 80 GM that works fine.

Hi
If you really need the "glow in the dark" side of the night sights I would stick to the better brands. Some of the knock off's I have seen aren't much better than white dots.
If it gets down to the choice of something weird or cutting the dovetail I'd make the cut.

Have you considered having your sights fitted with the tritium dots? I've read of others having t done, but maybe it was just because they were gunwriters and got special treatment.

I knew that was a possibility but way down the list for me. Does anyone know who is offering this service?

Well, you are right about that being a unique rear. I would contact Trijicon. It is my understanding that if you send them your slide, they will install the night sight tubes into your existing sights as long as there is sufficent depth for them. You have no problem with that. Give them a call. 44 Man

I don't believe that he had to recut the slide. Here's the before and after:

Steve,
I had a Colt XS series with those exact type of sights. I used the Trijicon CA22 sight and it is made to fit that exact cut. A standard Novak type will not work. If you remove or install the new sights yourself remember to lower or remove the firing pin stop. The rear of the XS sight overlaps the back of the slide and over the top of the stop.

thanks for all the help-since I posted this I have found the trijicon sight and it looks like it will fit. I have an email into trijicon right now to verify. Last time I looked into this I checked with many sources with no luck but I never thought to look at trijicon web site.....

Steve, it looks like you are correct on the Trijicon. I ordered a night sight for my XSE LW Commander (over the phone in consultation with their customer service and tech rep) and they sent the one that looks like it would fit your defender (it had the tab in the back that fits over the firing pin stop). Trijicon does not seem to be aware of which of their sights fits what Colt, and that includes their "experts" and tech reps. They have sent me two sights, both incorrect (as judged by me and my gunsmith). I gave them not only the description, but the model number and the first part of the serial number - no success. I would either send them the slide, or you might try Champion (http://www.championsights.com/) they seem to know what they are doing, and get their tritium inserts from Trijicon anyway.

I just received a reply from trijicon and you are right-they are clueless. I guess their stock answer is send in the slide. I offered to send pics and they weren't interested. I have an email into champion now and will wait to see what they say. I'm leaning towards just ordering the trijicon based on the picture and description and see what happens...

while I'm at it I'll ask another sight question. Does anyone know who makes night sights for a series 70 Gold Cup? I have some on the GC now but I've never liked them very much-They are Millett brand and from looking at their web site it doesn't look like they offer night sites anymore.

Hi
Does the 70 Series GC have the original sights on it? Re-cutting dovetails to put new new sights on is not an uncommon thing to do.

the rear has a Millett night sight in it but the slide cuts are still factory. the front has a Millett dual crimp which I plan on having removed and the holes repaired for fitting with a dovetail front sight.

Hi
Several companies should have parts that will fit if it's the factory dovetail. Who's sights do you like the best?

please don't be offended but it sounds like you are forgetting that the Gold Cup comes with an adjustable rear (elliason) which also fits the python./ Not just a simple dovetail.

Hi
Yup, the blued version of the GCT comes with the non-dovetail and the stainless GCT does come with a dovetail. Are we talking about a stainless style or a blued style here on the model 70 GC?
Of course I'm not sure exactly when they started doing the dovetail and the stainless anyway.

FWIW here is a link for Novaks (http://www.novaksights.com/index.htm)
They seem to be knowledgable.

When I did a search on the number on the rear sight of my Defender, this is what popped up http://www.championgunsights.com/products.asp?cat=12 Does anyone know who makes the sights for Colt?

I don't believe there ever was a stainless 70 series gold cup but I might be wrong on that. The sights on the current gold cups are totally different than the original 70 series gold cups.
I contacted both novaks and champion and emailed them pics of my rear sights and they both said no luck.
I ordered a trijicon and will report back if they fit.
