View Full Version : Removing Oversized FPS

Hey guys, long time no post...

I Had a "very good smith" place a oversize Firing pin stop in my Kimber Pro today. Picked it up from him, and he said, ..."Now when you take this out, do as usual, and depress the firing pin, then tilt your tool or punch, (used in doing this), slightly forward, and tap lightly on the punch to scoot the FPS off, then when 'replacing' it, do as you normally would, depressing the firing pin, and "very lightly tap on the bottom end of the FPS, until it is 'set,' and make sure all is 'even' at the bottom..."

Question:

Is this how y'all have to do this?
This all NEW to me, so valid question to me at least! :D

I said.."Man is it that tight"?

He said, "Not like you got to pound it man, just know, you will have to do it as per above, to get it off/on.."

Does this sound right to y'all?

Thanks

Sounds about par....maybe a wee bit too tight. I like'em to be a light press-fit. Not so tight that I have to tap'em in and out, but not loose enough to drop of their own weight.

Thanks Johnny,
Is a "wee bit to tight.." going to cause me a problem of any kind ya think?

Nah. Just a nuisance when ya take it apart. After 15 or 20 times, it'll start to loosen up a little anyway.

Johnny, you and Hawkmoon, just made my day !! ;)

I am learning, and don't assume to know a good deal yet, so i will continue on my journey with this Kimber, to need y'alls help. I respect you both, and others here as well, and have, and will, benifit from your wisdom....

Thanks to you both! ;)
God Bless!

Why not go on offense here and whip out your black felt marker? Cover the sides, install the stop and then see where the problem lies. I have had the best luck removing the firing pin and the extractor first and getting a good fit. At that point you can add the extractor and make necessary adustments.
