Shooting a Detonics Mk1 CombatMaster (3.5" bbl). I was having issues with it, so I installed new recoil springs from DetonicsUSA and a Wilson Bulletproof extractor. Also using two new Metalform mags from DetonicsUSA.

The pistol was failing to eject about twice out of every mag. Extraction was fine every time. The spent round would get pulled straight back, not eject, and get in the way of the incoming round. The spent casing didn't start to turn, so I can't call it a true "stovepipe".

Tried the extractor from her cousin, a Mk5. Ejection and extraction were fine, but now I was running into a failure to feed. The bottom leading edge of the extractor was impacting the rim of the cartridge as it popped up from the mag.

Thoughts?

The bottom leading edge of the extractor was impacting the rim of the cartridge as it popped up from the mag.

Use a small, square file to cut a light bevel on the bottom edge of the extractor wall to let the rim get in easier. Light...bevel. Mainly just break the corner to let the rim glide across it. Angle...approximately 30 degrees. Break the bottom corner of the hook too. Again...Just a light radius.

Tuner,

Appreciate it. That was with the "borrowed" extractor. Did I just not have enough tension on the original extrator? This is the one that extracted fine, but didn't eject.

Could be that the tension is too low. Could also be that the hook isn't deep enough, or the rear face of the hook isn't square and getting a good bite on the rim. Hook tip to wall depth should be .035-.036...with an absolute minimum of .032 inch, and at least square with the wall to keep it from slipping off as it pulls on the rim.

Tuner,

Thanks for the advice, sir. I'll check it out. I appreciate it.
