I've got a couple bottles I haven't tried yet. I think I remember hearing that the German military uses this stuff. Any opinions?

Well, I can opine. I use it mostly for black powder cleaning. It is a relatively soluble oil that can be mixed with distilled water 1:10 to make a milky emulsion. That emulsion is great for cleaning black powder residue from firearms. One needs only to let it dry, spray with pure Ballistol for rust protection, and store the gun.
Otherwise, it functions in smokeless arms satisfactorily.

I have used it in the past. Sorry to say that I wasn't real impressed. I mean it works ok but nothing to write home about. You spray it on and let it soak a while as per the instructions. What I noticed was that it gelled up after a bit. I ended up using some Hoppes to finish the cleaning job. On the other hand, my son used it in the barrel of a long gun and said it worked great for him getting the bore clean. After you use it, let us know what you thought.
