Most of the US Property marked Colt 1911s have Model of US Army on the slide. I have seen plenty of references to the ones marked Model of NAVY and these have a higher collector value because they are more rare. What about USMC markings. When I look at all the list floating around that identify manufacture year based on serial number, they also reference serail number ranges issued to USMC but I have never seen any reference to one marked this way. Are there any or were they marked US Army and shipped to the marine corp (or Navy marked)?

USMC shipments were standard US Army rollmarked.

As bgiven stated, not any of the 1911s or 1911A1s, were marked as such.
The current Kimber DET- 1, ICQB pistol is marked “Det 1 (serial number)” and “U.S. Government Property USMC.”
As far as I know, it is the first USGI pistol ever marked USMC.

I have not seen a USMC marked pistol, I was just curios if there was any. Does a serial number that indicates it was shipped to the USMC increase collectable value?

With regards to WWI M1911s, it surely does increase the value.....the same goes for WWII M1911A1s that were shipped to the US Navy,and/or with supporting documentation.

The MCSOCOM Det-1 Pistol is marked: "U.S. MILITARY PROPERTY USMC". ;)
A bogus USMC marked 1911 slide (none were marked as such) appeared on one of the auction sites several months ago, and was discussed on another forum. But as previously mentioned one with documentation showing it's use in the USMC would make it a desirable pistol especially those made in 1912-13. :)

Really, when did they change it?

I believe they have always been marked as such. Couldn't find a good picture of one , but just so happens there is an old thread on one with pictures:

Thank you, I have been looking for that thread!
I was going by what Pat Rogers (the fella that Spec'd the pistol) stated in his article about the DET-1s in the December 2003 SWAT magazine.
Thanks for the clarification exitwounds. http://forum.m1911.org/images/icons/icon14.gif

BTW, at the Quantico MCB Branch Museum the only pistols that were ever marked "USMC PROPERTY", were some HS Supermatic .22 Auto's, 2nd Model Colt Woodsman Match Target, and Colt Woodsman Sport Model pistols. The later were on loan at the time I visited there in the late 90's, the supermatics are also shown in some RTE (Rifle Team Equipment) pictures.

Me thinks the custom made Sniper system rifles (M40A3) and Quantico (or other USMC armories) arsenal rebuilds of M1911A1's are about as close to a "Model of the USMC" branded firearm as ur gonna get. They always seem to get the left overs from either Navy or Army programs.
